Marathon man outlasts Jesus
Known for winning $7,000 in a prop bet to run a marathon on the hottest day of the year in Las Vegas when it was 115 degrees, Ted Forrest has again proved he is a distance man in the final of the 2006 NBC Heads Up Championship.Forrest outlasted all comers, along the way surviving the longest match in tournament history against Sam Farha. Then he came face to face with Jesus, 2005 NBC Heads Up Championship runner up Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson.
After Ferguson took the first match in the best of three final, all the pressure was on Forrest, or at least should have been. The second match saw Ferguson dominated by Forrest's top pairs. Both players went the distance on several hands only for Ferguson to find Forest was holding top pair.
In the final and deciding match Forrest took the early lead and never looked back. He bullied Ferguson out of some big pots early, and then when Ferguson finally made some hands he couldn't get a call from Forrest. The in the hand that that all but decided the championship Ferguson flopped two pair kings and nines, Forest boldly stayed in the hand holding only a pair of sixes, and was rewarded when he caught his trips on the river. The river was again brutal to Ferguson on the final hand, Ferguson was already behind at the turn holding a pair of queens to Forrest's cowboys, to at insult to injury Forrest again made his trips on the river clinching the championship in dominating fashion.
And for the second year in a row, Jesus was the bridesmaid.
