Day 2 at the Mirage is a different kind of Life Exotic

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

The leader board at the end of day 2 of the Mirage Poker Showdown was still exotic at the pointy end but not they way we hoped.

With the last of the lovely ladies eliminated late in the day when Kristy Gazes went out in 29th the day closed with Harry Demetriou, Robert Mizrachi, Stan Weiss, Matthew Keikoan, Darrell Dicken, Shane Schleger, Tam Van Nguyen and Farzad Bonyadi topped the chip counts.

Day one dominator David Williams had his stack decimated but has fought back to be in the mid pack, the other big name scrapping to stay in it is John Juanda, who at one point was left with $40,000 in chips but has since fought back to a medium stack.

The beautiful Erica Schoenberg outlasted the likes of Barry Greenstein and Daniel Negreanu but they all joined the growing early casualty list that included Chip Jett, Josh Arieh, John Spadavecchia, David Sklansky, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, Gavin Smith, Ted Forrest, Phil Ivey, Huck Seed and Kathy Liebert.

Ivey may have a new nemisis with Devin "TranquilChaos" Porter mortaly wounding and then knocking out Phil with two big hands inside 10 minutes. First Devin came over the top of a $30,000 Ivey bet after with flop with a $115,000 raise forcing Phil to muck his hand. A few minute later on a flop of Ad-Kd-6s, Phil bet and Devinpushed all in. Ivey immediately called with Ac-Qs while Porter shows Qd-Jd. The turn was the 6d giving Porter the flush, with no help on the river Phil was eliminated.
