Final Table Begins

Thursday, August 10, 2006

Its been a marathon performance by the players at the final table and after today we will have the 2006 World Champion crowned.

Play commenced earlier with the blinds set at $80,000 / $160,000 and with an ante of $20,000. Enough to make any pot worth taking down.

Jamie Gold was straight into the action and continued to build his healthy chip stack as he won the first pot of the day.

Hand: First Hand of the Day
- Doug Kim raises to $480,000 in late position
- Jamie has Doug covered 6:1
- Jamie Gold re-raises to $1,480,000
- Doug Kim folds

Shortly after, Dan Nassif, was the first player to be eliminated from the final table, but will be taking home $1,566,858 for 9th place.

The knockout hand came courtesy of Jamie Gold and his set of quacking 2's

Hand: Quack, Quack!
- Jamie Gold in early position calls
- Dan Nassif is on the button
- He raises to $700k
- Gold calls & checks in the dark
Flop: 5s 3s 2c
- Nassif moves all-in
- Gold calls
Showdown: Gold 2h2s Vs AcKd
Turn: Ah River: 10s

Gold wins with a set of 2's and Nassif departs the final table with over $1.5 million dollars in his pocket. Does this mean an early retirement for our 33-year-old account executive?

Currently play is still in the first level for the final day, at 32, and here is how the chip stacks are shaping up:

Jamie Gold $31,600,000

Allen Cunningham $16,800,000

Richard Lee $10,000,000

Erik Friberg $9,000,000

Doug Kim $6,600,000

Paul Wasicka $6,500,000

Rhett Butler $4,400,000

Michael Binger $3,000,000

We might be seeing some more all-in action very soon, as the short stacked players start to feel the bite of the ever increasing antes.
