World Strip Poker Champion Crowned
A week after the record 8,773 entrants lined up in the 2006 WSOP Main Event, nearly 200 entrants put their modesty on the line at the inaugural World Strip Poker Championship.Held in Cafe Royal in central London, the event had 10,000 pounds ($18,844USD) for first place to go along with the title of World Series Strip Poker Champion.
John Young, a 32-year-old freelance writer from Slough, a town just west of London, secured victory after an eight hour competition, beating a truly international field.
Entrants of both sexes from 12 different countries took part in the event which doubled as an official Guinness World Record attempt.
Aside from strict rules governing the poker play, there were clear guidelines on the stripping element -- most importantly that each player started the match by wearing five items of clothing supplied by the organisers.
Each contestant was given a towel to sit on and to cover themselves when naked, but only after they had stripped completely.
