Phil Gordon leads WSOP circuit event
Harrah's New Orleans is currently playing host to the 'Bayou Poker Challenge' WSOP circuit event, which is the final stop of the World Series of Poker circuit season. With over half a million dollars at stake for first place, poker pro and celebrity Phil Gordon appears well on his way to acheiving his biggest cash ever in tournament poker. The top prize will pay the winner $516,801. A total of 36 players will make the money and split a prize pool totalling $1,667,100.
The popular author and television personality is the chip leader at the end of the first day and with two days still to play, enjoys a sizable chip lead over his closest rivals.
Phil appeared at the final table of the World Series of Poker main event in 2001, and is one of the original Full Tilt Poker Pros, however these days he is perhaps better-known for his contributions as a writer, teacher, and television analyst.
Gordon penned "The Little Blue Book," a best-seller and primer on poker as a sequel to "Phil Gordon's Little Green Book". He has also appeared in several instructional poker videos and was the host of the "Celebrity Poker Showdown" during its first two seasons.
Aside from poker and writing, Gordon is even more committed to his tireless charity work. He co-founded "Put a Bad Beat on Cancer," which raises money and public awareness for cancer research.
Best of luck Phil, it'll be tough to take your day 1 chip lead all the way to the final table.
