When the sun comes up

What is going on? Where is all this blogging coming from? Well the answer is I've gone from being a night person to a morning person. I've made the transition back from being a creature of the night...

I used to stay up late every night, playing poker, working, watching bad TV - not being all that productive. It started working graveyard shifts in Casinos, then as a customer support worker - but I used to like it. For all my youth I was a swimmer getting up at dawn to train, and when I stopped swimming sleeping in was the greatest pleasure ever.

Now I'm almost back to the hours of my swimming days - dead tired and asleep by 9pm, getting up at 5am and getting a good start to the day. It used to be a struggle to get to computer by 9am to do some work, but now I've exercised, had breakfast, answered email and am sitting down working by 7 o'clock.

It really has made a big difference in my life, and now I'm keen to start blogging again. It's like I have discovered twice as much productive time!

The same principals apply for your poker play. If you are well rested and healthy you will be able to focus on the game at hand and make better decisions. There's been a lot of poker energy drinks etc launched recently, and I'm sure they will prove to be popular. But in reality nothing can better prepare you for a tournament than the basics. Chemicals will only make things worse in the long run.

So make sure you get;
  • Sleep - don't play big tournaments when you're tired
  • Hydration - drink plenty of water
  • Nutrition - eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and don't ignore carbs - they're your energy food!
  • Exercise - it will increase your energy levels, not make you tired
Anyway, that's my news for the day and a tip for helping you perform better when you play some poker. It's sure helping me feel a lot better and enjoy life more.

I'm off to PokerStars to try and qualify for the APPT event. There's an event in Sydney in December and they've just announced one in Macau in November. How awesome is that? A poker tournament in China's Las Vegas! I've got to try and get there...
