Jen Tilly wins & Mark wins again!

Tuesday, June 28, 2005

I couldn't believe it when I saw that Jennifer Tilly, the hollywood actress, had won the $1000 ladies World Series of Poker event. How cool! Her boyfriend, Phil 'The Unabomber' Laak didn't fare quite as well though, bowing out to Johnny Chan in a pot limit hold'em event. Chan won his record 10th WSOP event to be the only person to ever have won 10 bracelets. Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson are now chasing him with 9 each.

A few days earlier, Poker.com's new friend, Mark Seif won his 2nd bracelet of this WSOP, and is the only player to win multiple events so far this year. Way to go Mark!

And Tao of Poker really has been the best place to catch up on up to the minute news from the WSOP. Keep up the good work guys.

Home Again & go Mark!

Thursday, June 23, 2005

The Poker.com team are back down under after a long flight.

We had some good times in Miami with all the other poker people, including pro Mark Seif who had just won a WSOP event! You can just see his gold and diamond encrusted bracelet in the pic. He was a great guy and we wish him the best of luck in the rest of the WSOP events. He is down to the final 2 tables in event #22, the NL Holdem $1500, coming 1st in the current chip count with $420k. Good luck Mark!

Going to Miami

Friday, June 17, 2005

We've travelled from Montreal to South Beach, Miami, to meet up with some fellow poker webmasters over the weekend. We'll be talking about what we can do to help other Poker webmasters with their sites by providing things like private tournaments and other cool things for all you poker players out there.

Are there any good Poker games in Miami? The boys went looking for one last night up the coast at The Hard Rock Casino. I'll let you know how they went in the next post.

Shoot us an email if you are a Poker.com player in Miami and would like to meet up for a drink or a quick sit & go!

I'm off to explore South Beach as the sun rises.

Hello From Montreal!

Wednesday, June 15, 2005

We arrived in Montreal safely after 30+ hours of travelling. There was a few sit & go tournaments played on the plane, but I think we played too low stakes as there were all-ins every 2nd hand! On the way back we'll up the buy in and make it a little more interesting.

The GIGSE conference has been good. There's plenty of new poker games and ideas to check out. And everyone here loves the new Poker.com software!

Paul & Chris got to check out the F1 Grand Prix, but were dissappointed when F1 host Casino Montreal didn't have a poker room! For such a great city, their casino is a little boring...But the Steak is great, nearly as good as Australian steak even. It was so good that Paul even had a go at breaking the biggest steak ever eaten record in Reuben's restaurant on St Catherine. He beat it..... and that steak was huge..... But so is Paul I guess!

Their next adventure was playing in the GIGSE poker tournament. Paul busted out 3rd with a bad beat. His AK turning into AAKK on the flop, but being beaten by a 10 on the river to give his opponents KQ a broadway straight. Chris lasted a while longer, but ended up out of the money also when his suited KJ on the big blind was crazily called by another short stack with 95 who hit his 9 on the turn to bust out Poker.com's last chance of glory.

I hear the Poker.com freerolls ae going well with over 1200 entrants in some. That's great news, I'm glad to see everyone is enjoying the free money giveaway.

Anyway - I have to run. Off to a seminar on new Mobile phone Poker games and some other interesting developments in the Poker world. Will try to post again soon.

Here we come Montreal

Thursday, June 09, 2005

Some of the Poker.com team are headed to Montreal this weekend to take part in the 7th annual Global Interactive Gaming Summit & Expo.

If you're a Poker.com member that lives in Montreal, shoot us an email and maybe we can meet up so Paul Cherry can give you a hat as he likes to do in the forums.

It should be a fun trip. We'll keep you up to date with the cool new things we see at the expo right here in the blog.

Also - sorry for some of the problems that you may have been experiencing in the tournamenst since our upgrade. We're planning to do something special to make up for the inconvenience of some tournaments being cancelled. Stay tuned for details.

Congrats to Phil, freerolls & hello to Casino.dk players!

Tuesday, June 07, 2005

First of all a big hello to all the Danish players that have been joining us at Poker.com via Casino.dk. Hope you are liking the site! There's some great new features coming in the next update that I think you'll all like, but I'll save that for another post.

The Freeroll have been going well with heaps of players winning some free cash. Congratulations to yesterday's winner of the $3000 freeroll, 'masseboy' who won $810!

And Phil Hellmuth has become the all time leader of 'in the money' finishes at the WSOP, with 48, after his 42nd finish in the #4 Limit Hold'em Event. I wonder if he threw a tantrum when he got busted. After all he would win every tournament if it wasn't for luck.... Well done Phil.

Las Vegas & Poker Blog is doing a good job of keeping us updated with the WSOP, but I'm dissapointed with the amount of information available at the official WSOP site. They tried to keep press releases going out and website updates, but have stopped already.....

The 2005 WSOP is under way!

The 2005 World Series of Poker has started at the Rio in Las Vegas, so get set for 1 1/2 months of WSOP news!

The first event was the Casino Employees championship.

Event #1: Casino Employees World Poker Championship
Location: Rio, Las Vegas
Buy-in: $500
Number of Entries: 662
Total Prize Money: $297,900

It broke the record for number of entries ever received before, and was won by a dealer from Binions Las Vegas, Andy Nguyen who took home $83,390. Not bad for a days work!

Event number 2 is in progress now, the $1500 buy in No Limit Texas Holdem event. It also broke a record, becoming the 2nd biggest field in a WSOP event, less than only last year's main event which attracted 2576 entrants.

News is that this years combined WSOP events will top $100million in prize money. Oh wow......
