Lingdren's crazy golf bet

Friday, June 29, 2007

You might have heard about Erick Lingdren's golf bet yesterday. The Full Tilt Poker pro, bet against fellow 'Tilters Gavin Smith and Phil Ivey for an amount rumoured to be over $300,000 in total.

The bet was that Erick could not play 4 consecutive rounds of golf at Las Vegas' Bears Best golf course, walking and carrying his clubs, and shoot under 100 for each round.

That's a tough bet - but he did it and made A LOT of money. He's done better on the golf course than at the WSOP so far, even though he did make a final table.

Erick used to be a bit of an athlete and I remember him betting someone else that he could dunk a basketball for a chunk of change a little while back. He won that easily too - throwing it down on his first attempt.

There's a video below from the guys at Raw Vegas. Some more footage should be released soon.

You might not be able to beat him at golf, you can play online poker against Erick Lingdren and other pros at Full Tilt Poker.

I Bet You tip #3

Tuesday, June 19, 2007

I Bet YouThe I Bet You guys have another poker tip for Poker.com readers.

NEVER GO ON TILT.

Easy to say, hard to do. So often I see some very good players on total tilt.

If you lose a big hand or take a brutal beat don’t let it affect your play and if it’s going to and you always know when it does then quit the game.

Never play when you are on tilt.

Calvin launchs his blog

Monday, June 18, 2007

Online Poker's biggest pimp daddy, Mr Calvin Ayre, has launched his blog at http://www.calvinayre.com.

He's going to "delve into everything from
the world of Bodog Entertainment to the latest industry news… to the work being done through the Calvin Ayre Foundation".

So far he's delved into Paris Hilton, the new Bodog offices on Antigua, and had some digs at his ultimate fighting rival, Dana White.

There's some press conference interviews and a camera following Calvin around backstage at a BodogFIGHT event.

The blog should be good to stay in touch with what's happening at Bodog.

Antonio's Tip #2

Saturday, June 16, 2007

I Bet YouThe I Bet You guys have another poker tip for Poker.com readers.

Always spread maximum disinformation.

Never ever let anyone know or think that you know what you are doing. The worst they think the better.

So often I see people teaching others and validating their good decisions and I am blown away by this behavior!!! I want my opponents to think I am an idiot not a wizard.

If a situation comes up and I know what the right math or the right play is and it is brought up in conversation I will come up with the wrong solution just so people think I am clueless.

Never let them know that you know...ALWAYS SPREAD MAXIMUM disinformation.

Names Vs Unknowns

FoxyOne of Poker.com's friends, Stuart Fox, finished 2nd in event 22 at the World Series - the $5000 NL Holdem.

He took home a handy $449k for his troubles. Well done mate!

In other WSOP news, the $5000 H.O.R.S.E. event is now running, with a host of big names in the hunt. Cyndy Violette is chip leader, with a host of other well known pros high on the standing also - Gavin Smith, Phil Ivey, Erik Seidel, Greg Raymer to name a few.

The $3000 7 Stud Hi/Lo is down to 10 players, with Eli Elezra in the lead and Scotty Nguyen, David Sklansky and Thor Hansen on his heels.

This year's WSOP hasn't really seen many big names winning bracelets, but there has been a lot of star studded final tables. Apart from Phil Hellmuth and Allen Cunningham, all of the 'notable' pros have failed to capitalise once they get to the final table.

Here's a list of the winners so far, with the names of some pros I recognise that made the final table in brackets.

Event 1 - Steve 'MrSmokey1' Billirakis (Greg Mueller, Steve Paul-Ambrose, Kirk Morrison)
Event 2 - Frederick Narciso (Casino Employee Event)
Event 3 - Ciaran O'Leary
Event 4 - Mike Spegal (Gavin Smith, Marco Traniello)
Event 5 - Tom Schneider (Annie Duke, Chris Ferguson, David Benyamine, Josh Arieh, John Phan)
Event 6 - Gary Styczynski (Varouzhan Gumroyan)
Event 7 - Burt Boutin (David 'Devilfish' Ulliot, Minh Ly, John Juanda, Humberto Brenes)
Event 8 - Michael Chu (Amir Vahedi, Shane 'Shaniac' Schleger, Maciek 'Michael' Gracz)
Event 9 - Alex Kravchenko
Event 10 - Will Durkee
Event 11 - Chris Reslock ( Phil Ivey, David Oppenheim, Marco Traniello)
Event 12 - Jason Warner
Event 13 - Allen Cunningham (Jeffrey Lisandro, Humberto Brenes, Gavin Griffin)
Event 14 - Michael Keiner (Barry Greenstein, Greg Raymer)
Event 15 - Phil Hellmuth
Event 16 - James Richburg
Event 17 - Saly Boyer (Katja Thater)
Event 18 - Saro Getzoyan ( Thor Hansen)
Event 19 - Francois Safieddine (John Phan, Humberto Brenes)
Event 20 - Ryan Hughes
Event 21 - Don Baruch (Daniel Negreanu, Erik Lindgren)
Event 22 - James Mackey (Stuart Fox, Michael Binger, Maciek 'Michael' Gracz)
Event 23 - Scott Clements (Andrew Black)

There's been talk around the internet of how Bluff & ESPN have been changing the final table filming schedule to show more 'name' players. But if poker is truly to be considered a sport, as many think it should be, then surely they should just be sticking to the pre-determined schedule of premier events, and whoever makes it to the final table is considered worthy of being on TV.

Otherwise they are just going to miss the next generation of star players. What's next - the Lakers play against the Celtics or Knicks in the NBA finals every year because they are the most popular basketball teams that would make the most advertising dollars for the league?

That's the equivalent of what Bluff and ESPN are doing at the moment - changing the schedule to try and eek out some extra dollars.

I'm sick of the TV coverage following Tiger Woods around this year's US open golf too. I don't want to see the poor guy getting angry, hitting out of the rough and falling further off the pace! Show us the guy that's winning - not only does he deserve the exposure, but on that day he is the best golfer - the player we want to see.

The same goes for poker. And the 'unknowns' are beating the 'name' players most of the time anyway. So when it's all 'unknowns' at the final table, c'mon show them on TV guys. We want to see the best poker players, not the prettiest or most marketable ones according to Harrahs, ESPN, Nike or anyone else. Let us make up our own minds about who is worthy of the adulation. If the same old names keep getting churned out people will tune out and not respect the game - and you'll slowly kill the ratings...

Tip #1 from Antonio Esfandiari

Wednesday, June 06, 2007

I Bet YouAntonio Esfandiari poker pro from the cable TV show I Bet You, is providing Poker.com readers with exclusive poker tips over the next few days.

Here's Tip #1;

Always fold when you know you are beat. Many times in poker a player knows that his hand is no good yet he calls out of pure frustration.

A lot of times if someone is running bad they cannot accept that fact that they got unlucky again and as a result will make another bad call KNOWING they are beat.

So remember to ALWAYS fold when you know your hand is no good.

That may seem pretty basic, but it is important to remember at all levels of the game. When you have that gut feeling your hand is no good, an experienced players is usually right.

So start laying those bad hands down, check out I Bet You, and check back tomorrow for another tip.

And by registering on the Poker.com forum and posting in this thread, you can win an I Bet You prize.
