Wild Chris Ferguson!

Monday, July 30, 2007

I watched the TV show 'Deadwood' for the first time this weekend and saw that poker pro Chris Ferguson has most definitely modelled his look off wild west gunslinger, Wild Bill Hickok!

Look at the photo>>

He's no longer 'Jesus' to me, but from now on will be "Wild Chris Ferguson".

Wild Bill was a poker player too. He was playing poker when shot in the back and killed by Jack McCall. Apparently McCall was insulted when Hickok had won all his money fair & square earlier, then returned $1 so McCall could buy himself breakfast.

Bill's final hand was two pair, Aces & 8s - which has since been known as the dead man's hand.

Deadwood's been okay so far. There's often poker games being played on the show. They seem to play either 5 card stud or 5 card draw in all the saloons, along with something called Faro, which is kind of like mini-baccarat.

You can play against and learn from 'Wild' Chris Ferguson at the site he helped create - Full Tilt Poker. He's in the middle of a project where he is trying to turn $0 into a $10,000 bankroll. So ask how he's going if you see him at the tables.

Shannnon Elizabeth Carded!

Friday, July 27, 2007

Just where to they find the bozos that work casino security?

If you have ever been to a casino anywhere in the world, you probably have a story about the rudeness or cluelessness of a casino security guard. I've got about 5 of my own...

But this one takes the cake.

Shannon Elizabeth flew to Melbourne, Australia to play in the Victorian State Poker Championship at Crown Casino. On her way to the poker room, she was carded by security. She didn't have any ID on her, and they wouldn't let in her in to play.

Not only is she 33 years old and a movie star, but the legal gambling age in Australia is 18. How in hell could anybody say she does not look 18 years old!

Given that the average mental age of a casino security guard is about 13, they'd know very well who she was too. They'd know Nadia from American Pie more intimately than they'd know their own grandmother.

We don't know if she ended up playing or not, but it's a shame that somewhere that is usually great like Crown has the usual clueless security guards.

Maybe they imported them from Vegas?

I Bet You still going strong

Monday, July 23, 2007

Phil & Antonio's I BET YOU tv show on the Mojo HD cable channel is producing some funny TV.

You can click through and view some scenes from the show at the I Bet You section of the Mojo website. If you haven't seen it yet, poker players, Phil Laak and Antonio Esfandiari bet each other random amounts on the outcome of random events. For example, who can eat an ice cream the fastest, who can beg on the street for the most money or who is the better bartender.

'Dancing with the Poker Stars' was a good one. Neither of them could dance at all.... Was a crack up! Antonio is definitely having the best of it so far, being up $5000 over Phil.

You can keep track of the score as well as all airing times on the website too. I'm looking forward to seeing them try and coach basketball and drive dune buggies.

Antonio also sent through another poker tip for Poker.com readers.

Talk a lot.
The reason for this is because it can and it will come in handy in the future. If you are talkative person and you are chatting it up w the people they will become accustomed to speaking with you.

When a big decision comes up and they are already used to speaking with you they are more likely to answer a question or talk to you when you have a big decision to make when they have made a big bet.

We all know you give away information when you open your mouth and that is exactly what you want your opponent to do and what better way then to butter them up beforehand.

Thanks Antonio - good luck protecting that lead on the show. I have a feeling Phil will make a comeback soon.

A tourney a day

Friday, July 20, 2007

I decided to fire up Full Tilt and play some tournies today. From the lobby I regged for a 45 player S&G, a satellite to the FTOPS and the $50 buyin $7500 guaranteed.

I'm still alive at the final table of the $50 tourney, which ended up reaching $11,250 in prize money. Somehow I won the FTOPS satellite and was unlucky to finish 3rd in the S&G.

3/3 final tables - it's been a good afternoon!

I usually only play cash games and single table sit & gos, because MTTs can take up so much time. But it's been a nice change to get in some tournament time and actually do okay.

I was steaming a little after the S&G final table. Three handed I had built a nice lead and made the right calls when the other two went all in, but a couple of suckouts later and I was on the rail in 3rd spot.

Wish me luck...

UPDATE: my AQ clubs was just busted by AJ of spades when a dreaded spade hit on the river. Well... You can only get them in with the best of it.... Really short stacked now, so it looks like it'll be 8th place in this one unless there's a miracle on the way!

Have a good weekend.

Congrats Jerry

Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Jerry YangCongratulations to Jerry Yang, for winning the 2007 World Series of Poker main event.

When it got down to him and Tuan Lam (Babyhan on PokerStars), I thought Jerry would win it quickly and created most of his profile page to celebrate his imminent win.

When Babyhan won his first all-in and then looked liked winning his second after the queen flopped, I was cursing Jerry Yang's god. I nearly though I'd wasted all that time creating the profile and cover story!

But Jerry's god came through and won it for him, and Poker.com was the first site to run a story - exactly 23 seconds after that 6 came down on the river.

The way the guy carried on you'd think he had nothing to do with it! It was all 'his god'....

Well at least that should give all the religious freaks that constantly make up lies about online poker something to talk about. One of their own has won the WSOP!

Congrats Jerry. And Congrats Full Tilt Poker. It was their first WSOP main event win too!

A change is coming....

Sunday, July 15, 2007

Things have been quiet here at Poker.com over the past couple of weeks. That's because we have been working hard on a new version of the site. It's nearly ready. Still a few things to do, but it's coming along nicely.

But to keep you busy while we are working like angry beavers, here's the best upcoming online poker promotions.

Full Tilt Poker is holding their FTOPS V in August. FTOPS stands for Full Tilt Online Poker Series and is a series of online poker tournaments with $7 million in guaranteed prizes.

As a part of the FTOPS V, Tilt are holding their first ever 2 Day Tournament, which will also have their biggest ever online poker tournament buy-in of $2500!

Satellites have already started, so if you fancy yourself as a big time tournament player, get over to Full Tilt Poker and get qualifying.

With their European focus, Titan Poker is sending players to the WSOP Europe in September.

On July 28th they are running a Super Satellite into the WSOP Europe NL Holdem main event. And on July 26, they are running a satellite into the Pot Limit Omaha main event. It's tough to find online Omaha satellites, so if you're a fan of the 4 card game this is your chance to qualify online for a big live Omaha event.

There's heaps more info, including the satellite schedules, on the Titan Poker Website.

I'm going back to the grind, to try and get this new site finished! Enjoy it if you get to play some poker!
