Go Barack Go

Thursday, February 21, 2008

We're not usually very politically minded here at Poker.com, and we're not even from the USA, but the current presidential race in the United States has been captivating.

For once it seems there's a candidate that may actually follow through on what he is promising - Barack Obama.

And he has said he loves to play poker too!

The first reason we liked him is because he is not named Bush or Clinton. He's right when he says it's time for a change. Bill Clinton was a good president, but the world doesn't need his angry wife as the most powerful person on the planet! And the less said about Bushes the better....

From speaking to friends from all corners of the globe, I think the USA could be giving themselves a huge boost in reputation and likeability by electing Senator Obama. He seems to really care about the issues at hand and is a much more presentable and convincing leader than the clown that has been running the country for the past 2 terms.

So anyway, we just wanted to show Barack some love, and if any of our American friends haven't decided who they would like as president yet, you know who we recommend.

So I finally saw Lucky You...

Sunday, February 03, 2008

I was in the DVD store the other day and 'Lucky You' was in the bargain pile, so I picked it up as I'd always wanted to see it despite the horrible reviews it received.

Now I kind of wish I hadn't. I can be a tough movie critic at times, but this lemon was a tragic waste of 2 hours I will never get back.

I don't know how they got actors like Bana, Barrymore and Duvall to sign on for this dud. You could tell none of them wanted to be there either! The acting was bad, the story line was predictably lame and the whole 123 minutes of the movie was just depressing.

A few scenes in I was cheering for Barrymore's character to punch Bana's 'Huck Cheever' in the face and leave the loser lying on the Vegas pavement. He should stick to playing emotionless tough guys, or at least choose better scripts if he's going to try and play roles requiring any empathy.

I thought the Vegas setting at the Bellagio & Binions, along with the World Series of Poker and cameos from pro poker players would make it worth watching. But they actually make it harder to watch with the robotic acting and poor camera work. I think the producers spent their entire budget on the lead actors and didn't spend nearly enough time or money on script development or production.

You can pick up a copy for as low as $3.52 in the Poker.com DVD Store, but please only watch this movie out of morbid curiosity! Even diehard poker fans will find it tough to sit through.
