Put and Take

Players play against the dealer. Five cards face up to each player. In the put round, the dealer deals himself cards face up; any player with matching cards puts money into the pot. In the take round, any player with matching cards takes money from the pot.

Description

Put round: Each player is dealt five cards face up, after which the dealer deals himself or herself one card face up. Any player with a card in their hand that matches the dealer's card antes once into the pot (the table's ante/minimum bet amount). The dealer then deals himself or herself a second card.

Any player with a matching card antes twice into the pot. Any player with a card matching the dealer's third card antes four times into the pot. Matching the dealer's fourth card antes eight times into the pot. Matching the dealer's fifth and final card antes sixteen times into the pot.

The dealer then collects his or her five cards, placing them at the bottom of the deck.

Take round: The dealer deals himself or herself one card. Any player with a matching card in their hand takes one ante from the pot. The dealer deals a second card; any player with a matching card takes two antes from the pot.

Any player with a card matching the dealer's third card takes four antes out of the pot. Any player with a card matching the dealer's fourth card takes eight antes out of the pot. Any player with a card matching the dealer's fifth and final card takes sixteen antes out of the pot.

When the take round has been completed, any money remaining in the pot is claimed by the dealer. However, if the pot is emptied before the end of the game, the dealer will have to pay the 'takes' out of his or her own money.
