19 year old wins WSOP Europe

September 16, 2007

Annette Obrestad, known online as 'Annette_15" has won the inaugral World Series of Poker Europe Main Event.

The 19 year old from Norway is the youngest ever player to win a WSOP bracelet, and takes away £1,000,000 in first place prizemoney.

Obrestad outlasted a stellar field of experienced poker pros, perhaps the toughest ever WSOP field ever assembled. Fearsome European players, Gus Hansen and Patrick Antonius were both amongst the chip leaders in the early stages of the tournament.

Already known as an up and coming online tournament player, Annette has taken down many online poker prizes, but this is by far her biggest cash.

The heads-up battle between Annette and John Tabatabai lasted hours, but the final hand saw all the chips go in on a flop of 567. Tabatabai held top two pair, but Annette flopped a set of sevens giving her the win.

The final table prize payouts were.

1st  Annette Obrestad - £1,000,000
2nd John Tabatabai - £570,150
3rd Matthew McCullough - £381,910
4th Oyvind Riisem - £257,020
5th Johannes Korsar - £191,860
6th Dominic Kay - £152,040
7th Magnus Persson - £114,030
8th Theo Jorgensen - £85,070
9th James Keys - £61,540

You can bet that Annette_15 will now turn her hand to the World Championship of Online Poker currently being played at PokerStars, with a guaranteed prize pool of over $15 million! There's low buyin and even free satellites into the main events running every day.
