The Ante Up For Africa charity tournament has brought in more than just poker names, with many big name celebrities attending.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have revealed that they will be attending the tournament, alongside such other luminaries as poker pro Phil Hellmuth. Brad Garrett and Mekhi Phifer have also expressed their intent to join in the action, as well as Charles Barkley, Cedric the Entertainer, Danny Masterson, Hank Azaria, Herschel Walker, Jason Alexander, Kenny Smith, Marlon Wayans, Montel Williams, Reggie Miller, Tia Carrera, Sarah Silverman, Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion, Cheryl Hines, and Rob Schneider. A lot of big poker names are also sure to attend, such as Howard Lederer, Andy Bloch, and Erik Seidel. More big names are expected to join these in the lead up to the tourney.
This will be the third Ante Up For Africa tournament, a No-Limit Hold ‘Em poker tourney that has become a major event on the poker calendar. It has a $5,000 entry fee and offers a substantial prize to the winner. So far, the Ante Up For Africa charity has raised almost $2 million for such causes as Not On Our Watch, ENOUGH, and The International Rescue Committee.
The tournament will begin on 2 July as a part of the 2009 World Series of Poker, though it is a side event. It is open to the public to play in or watch, and donations to the supported charities are always appreciated.
