Poker.com would like to congratulate Joe Cada of PokerStars on his 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event victory.
It hasn’t been an easy path for Cada, who came within a hair’s breadth of peril on multiple occasions during the final table. An early hand against Phil Ivey just barely went Cada’s way, and his stack was severely reduced in the opening salvos of his heads up play against Darvin Moon. Going into the final day of play with a chip stack of 135,950,000 to the 58,850,000 of Moon, Cada nevertheless lost the chip lead for some time.
Amazingly, Cada was able to return to the lead. In a hand with an initial 3 million chips put down by Cada, Moon called and the flop was 10 Clubs/5 Diamonds/9 Hearts. No one wanted to take a risk at this point, so the turn came down 10 Diamonds. Cada threw another 3 million in, and Moon responded with an all-in. Cada must have grown tired of being behind in chips, so he called with his Jack Hearts/9 Diamonds and Moon showed his 7 Spades/8 Spades. A harmless 3 Hearts came down and Cada was back in front.
Not long after this key moment in play, the two reached their ultimate standoff. A Cada raise to 3 million was met by a raise to 8 million from Moon, and Cada responded by going all-in. Moon took some time to make his decision, but he clearly liked his chances with Queen Diamonds/Jack Diamonds, so he called. Cada turned up his pocket 9s and Moon turned over his own hand before they waited for the rest of the cards to come down. No favors were done for either player as the flop was 8 Clubs/2 Clubs/7 Spades, followed by a King Hearts turn and 7 Clubs river. Joe Cada took the pot and the tournament, as Darvin Moon was left shaking his head in disbelief.
Joe Cada is the youngest ever WSOP Main Event Champion at just 21, and he has taken away a very respectable $8,547,042. His sponsors, PokerStars, are sure to lavish even more rewards on him for his performance. Cada’s age makes him a perfect ambassador for PokerStars and poker in general, and it is incredible that such a young player has taken the Main Event again, considering Peter Eastgate only set his own record last year at the age of 22.
Those who would like to play with the 2009 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Cada should join PokerStars. The PokerStars Pros play online exclusively at PokerStars, so Cada is sure to get into business there just as soon as he has recovered from the excitement of winning the WSOP Main Event.
