The German European Poker Tour event, in Dortmund at Casino Hohensyburg started an hour late today due to too many players wanting to play!
Seventy-five players lasted the day, including Team PokerStars pro, Katja Thater.
Katja was one of just two Team PokerStars Pros lined up to play day 1a. She shared a table with fellow Pro Dario Minieri and despite being on a very short stack through the day's later levels. Thater ended the day with about 19,500 in chips after winning several pots during the day's last level. Whilst Katja thrived Dario was hit hard early and was soon heading for the door.
Dortmund is perhaps best known for its beer, a pale pilsner lager first brewed by Dortmunder Union in 1873. Its popularity with workers was responsible for Dortmunder Union becoming Germany's largest brewery - and Dortmund having the highest concentration of breweries in the country. Perhaps that is why the casino instituted a fee to all players entering the tournament area which includes casino entry, buffet, soft drinks, beer, tea and coffee - either €70/day or €315 for the duration of the EPT. All you can drink beer for the railbirds will make for an interesting day of poker!
The EPT German Open goes into Day 1b today (January 30) at Hohensyburg Casino in Dortmund. Players include Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu, Noan Boeken, Luca Pagano and PCA champion Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier.
You can qualify for all EPT events at PokerStars, the world's largest online poker site.
