Jesus finally wins heads up title

March 2, 2008

Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson, from Full Tilt Poker, has won the 4th annual national heads up championship at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

After placing 2nd twice previously Ferguson was the crowd favorite against fellow full tilter, Andy Bloch.

In the opening rounds, Chris dispatched with John Juanda. Then it was Gavin Smith, then Mike Matusow - all Full Tilt sponsored players. Mike 'the Mouth 'Matusow proved to be a tough opponent, their match lasting the longest of any in the round of 16.

In the quarterfinals, Jesus offered no justice to Jonathan “FieryJustice” Little and advanced to the final four against yet another Team Full Tilt compatriot, Phil Ivey who just this week won the LA Poker Classic WPT crown. A gutsy call with pocket eights sent Ferguson past Ivey and into the final round against Bloch.

In the final, Bloch actually took the first in the best of three games, prompting Ferguson to say "I think I have a lot of pressure on me now".

But he beat the pressure and his win cements Ferguson’s status as the best performing player in National Heads-Up Championship history, with a win-loss total at 16-3 and over $1million in prizemoney in the event.

This win netted the tournament specialist $500,000 and another trophy to sit on the shelf next to his World Series of Poker bracelets.

You can play against Chris at Full Tilt Poker. As an experiement, he recently turned $0 into a $10,000 bankroll at the Full Tilt poker tables by playing the freerolls and then rising through the stakes. So be careful if you happen to sit at the same table as him!

This man is simply one of the greatest tournament players on the planet - you're still one of Poker.com's favorites Jesus!
