Australian Tyron Krost has won the 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event, taking away $2 million for his trouble.
The 23-year-old Krost placed first in a field of 746 players, coming out on top after 5 grueling days. It was no cakewalk, as he faced a tough final table that included Annette Obrestad.
Going into the final table, the seats and chip counts were:
Krost did not wait carefully to make his move – he slaughtered his fellow players left and right. Of the 7 other final table players, Krost knocked out 4 of them, including Obrestad and Sorel Rizzi – the chip leader going into the final table.
The first elimination was Stephen Shelly, who Krost sent home with pocket Jacks to Shelly’s pocket 7s. Surprisingly, Annette Obrestad was next to go when her Ace/Jack failed to make a straight or pair against Krost’s pocket 7s, and she chalked up a new high mark of seventh place for the Aussie Millions Main Event.
After Obrestad left the table, Krost clearly needed a break from eliminating players. Luckily, Kosta Varoxis was happy to oblige by knocking out Steve Friedlander. Now well rested, Tyron Krost proceeded to take out Peter Jetten, who finished in fifth place.
The final four players were culled to three by Frederik Jensen, who gave Varoxis his ticket home with pocket 2s. Varoxis’ Ace/6 picked up nothing on the board, and so away he went. Krost then came for another head and cut down Sorel Mizzi with an Ace/King against pocket 7s.
Jensen and Krost were then heads-up and finished dramatically when Jensen went all-in with King Diamonds/6 Spades against Krost’s King Spades/9 Diamonds. The flop gave both players a useless King, and Jensen found no help on the rest of the board. With that nail-biting hand, Tyron Krost took the 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event.
