Phils lead LA Poker Classic

February 27, 2008

Phil 'The Poker Brat' Hellmuth and Full Tilt Poker's superstar, Phil Ivey, sit at the top of the chip counts with 10 players remaining at the LA Poker Classic.

The World Poker Tour event being played is playing down to six players which will make up the TV final table tomorrow.

Play Online Poker These are the current chip counts, with the blinds at 20,000/40,000 with a 5,000 ante.

Phil Hellmuth 3,025,000
Phil Ivey 2,095,000
Charles Moore 1,900,000
Wei Kai Chang 1,680,000
Scott Montgomery 1,099,000
Quinn Do 790,000
Nam Le 755,000
Jeff Schwimmer 650,000
Theo Tran 510,000
Michael Watson 490,000

At the start of the day's play movie actress, Jennifer Tilly was sitting in 11th place with $417,000 chips but has since been eliminated in 12th place, winning $61,610.

Yesterday, players were departing at an astonishing rate. Rather that ending play with 27 players remaining, play continued until only 18 were left.

Eric Hershler, the 2007 LAPC Champion, did his best to defend the title, but ended up taking a bad beat and going out in 26th place, wining $42,450.

It's sure to be an exciting final table if the two Phils can stick around. Hellmuth started the day third in chips, but doubled up to take the chip lead. He is a tough player to outlast when he has chips, so unless he takes a bad beat (and throws a subsequent tantrum), he should make it to the final six and onto a WPT telecast.

Let's hope he takes a beat at the final table though - it makes for great TV!

You can qualify for WPT events by playing online at PokerStars or Full Tilt Poker.
