WSOP down to 18

July 14, 2008

There are just 18 players remaining in the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event.

The chip leader is Dennis Phillips, a PokerStars qualifier from St Louis, Missouri.

Roughly half of the remaining players refer to themselves as professional poker players and the same amount qualified for the event by playing online at PokerStars.

Just one woman remains in the field, 24 year old Tiffany Michelle, an actress and part -time poker reporter.

There are currently five players remaining with a chance to break Phil Hellmuth's "youngest player to win the Main Event" record. Hellmuth was approximately 24 years and 303 days old when he won in 1989.

Of the players currently remaining, there are five that could take the record - Tiffany Michelle (24), Craig Marquis (23) , Chris Klodnicki (23), Nicholas Sliwinski (23) and Peter Eastgate (22).

Play will continue today until just the nine player final table remains. Then for the first time ever, play will break until November when ESPN will then broadcast the final table.

Here are the final 18 players and their approximate current chipcounts.
