After a blistering start to the year that saw his profit peak at around $4.7 million, Gus Hansen has been dealt a serious blow after going down a million dollars in a week.

After being online poker’s biggest winner for the first three months of the year, Hansen now finds himself down to the tune of $970,000 for the month of April.

In the first week of this month alone, Hansen played some 8500 hands, including massive sessions of $300/$600 PLO against online regulars Tom ‘durrr’ Dwan and gavz101.

Unable to get any traction there, Hansen tried his hand at heads up matches. Following several gruelling sessions Phil ‘OMGClayAiken’ Galfond , the Great Dane was suddenly down hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In what shapes as a worrying trend for the Dane, Hansen won $2 million playing online poker in the early stages of last year, only to lose it all and more later in the year.

Hansen’s profit from online poker currently stands at around $3 million (down from $4.7 million) for 2011, while Dan ‘jungleman12’ Cates, is closing the gap at $2 million.

Hansen can rest easy in the fact that he has had a winning start to the year, but the same can’t be said for his Full Tilt Poker Full Tilt Poker nemeses Tom ‘durrr’ Dwan.

Dwan is currently the biggest loser in online poker for 2011, going down over $2 million in the early stages of this year.

Dwan’s poor start to the year was compounded by the fact he recently went down another $225,000 in a single week.
