Poker Professional Aaron Massey has claimed the biggest victory of his poker career by winning the WinStar World Casino River Poker Series Main Event.
The victory was easily the biggest of Massey’s career, whose biggest previous win was in the $ 300 No Limit Hold’em Re-entry event at last year’s Indiana State Poker Championship.
The breakthrough win clearly meant a lot to the grinding poker professional who broke into tears of joy after the final hand was dealt.
“It’s the most amazing feeling in my life. I’ve been working through this for so long that’s why I was crying. I’ve been through so many heartbreaks and I’ve had spots like ripped away from me by the turn of the river card. I just kept showing up and showing up and I finally broke through,” an emotional Massey said.
The American believes that the six figure pay-day will change his life significantly.
“I don’t even know how to put it into words. A lot of things are going to be different. My family is going to be alright and I’ve got validation with this first place, I earned it,” Massey said.
The turning point for Massey came in a hand with Matt Newcombe when only three players remained in the tournament.
Newcombe had been chip-leader for the majority of the final table but had his stack crippled by Massey, who doubled-up and took the chip lead.
“Matt Newcombe is a tough cookie. He has been giving me the business for three days now. I had to deal with him all of day two and he was really really tough. I put a strategy together and I thought that his aggression was going to get the best of him and I made a set and he didn’t get there for once,” Massey laughed.
