Exciting young poker professional Benny Spindler won the European Poker Tour €10,000 High Roller at Casino Sanremo yesterday.
Spindler took home the first prize of €288,000 as well as his his third European Poker Tour trophy; having previously won the 2011 European Poker Tour London Main Event and 2011 European Poker Tour €10,000 High Roller at Tallinn.
The German began the day second in chips behind Joel Nordkvist but when the Swede was eliminated in third place Spindler took a massive chip lead into the heads up battle with Keven Stammen.
The heads-up battle that ensued was epic and it took Spindler five hours to finally claim the tournament.
“It was really emotional I was constantly up and down,” Spindler said.
“I was playing really well, grinding him down and I had him all in three times; two were a coin flip and one I was ahead about 70% and it was just so frustrating losing all of those and being down to only twenty big blinds.
“I felt like I was going to lose for sure because momentum had shifted over to him but then luckily we both rivered a flush on the same hand and I doubled up and then it went back to being really good for me.
“Blinds were going up and he only had twenty big blinds so it was basically push or fold time for me.”
Spindler has his girlfriend to thank for even playing in the tournament and is rewarding her with a vacation on the Italian coast.
“My girlfriend has holidays right now and she visited me in Innsbruck and so we figured it wouldn’t be bad to just drive here and play the high-roller and just doing a bit of holidaying on the Italian coast,” Spindler said.
The European Poker Tour continues in Prague in December.
