Theo Jorgensen Shot in Robbery

Danish Team Pokerstars Pokerstars professional poker player Theo Jorgensen was shot three times during a robbery at his home in Denmark on Sunday.

Jorgensen is reportedly in a stable condition in hospital and his injuries are not considered life threatening.

Three armed men forced their way into Jorgensen’s home on Sunday afternoon and demanded cash.

Jorgensen gave the robbers both US dollar and Euros but they demanded more and shot the Dane when he was unable to comply with their request.

Jorgensen was shot in the leg three times as his horrified wife watched on.

His wife called the police but despite an extensive search of the surrounding area the armed men have not been captured.

The 2010 WPT Grand Prix de Paris was able to release a statement on his Facebook page yesterday.

“It is important for me to emphasize that I am a cautious man,” Jorgensen said in the statement.

“I have prepared myself mentally and practically that this situation could arise to protect myself and my family against outsiders.

“I know that the outsiders may have a mistaken idea of how much cash I have in my home.

“I have alarm systems installed, always so get cash lying as possible [sic] and generally taken my precautions but it has unfortunately proved not to be enough.”

Jorgensen is one of Europe’s top tournament poker players and is currently ranked 184th on the All Time Money List.

His biggest tournament success came when he defeated a strong field to win the first place prize of $ 848,736 in the 2010 WPT Rendez-Vous à Paris.

Jorgensen is also a World Series of Poker Bracelet winner having won the 2008 WSOP Europe £ 5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event.

His consistency and popularity throughout Europe saw him become a member of the exclusive Team Pokerstars Pokerstars in 2011.
