The incredible run of Canadian players at the 2013 World Series of Poker has continued with Justin Oliver and Daniel Idema winning WSOP bracelets yesterday.

Canadian players have now win nine different events at the 2013 WSOP and have already smashed the record for the most tournaments wins for a non-United States country in a series.

Oliver staged a remarkable comeback to win the $2,500 No-Limit Hold’em Four-Handed event and claim his first WSOP bracelet.

The thirty-seven-year-old was short stacked for the majority of the final stages of the tournament but remained calm and continued to work his way through the event.

Oliver finally made it to the heads-up stage of the tournament and found himself at a massive chip disadvantage to Nick Schwarmann.

He was, once again, able to maintain his composure and took home a well-deserved payday of $309,071- the biggest of his poker career to date.

Only a few hours later the Maple Leaf Flag was flying at the World Series again when Daniel Idema claimed victory in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better event.

The former hockey player receive his second WSOP bracelet, adding to his previous triumph in the $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship at the 2011 World Series Poker, and the first place prize of $184,590 took his total earnings at the series to over $1 million.

Idema has put together quiet the poker resume since retiring from Ice Hockey in 2006, recording nineteen cashes at the World Series of Poker and qualifying for final tables on five different occasions.

A number of leading players made deep runs in this tournament with Mike Sexton (56th), Phil Hellmuth (42nd), Jason Mercier (36th), Barry Greenstein (21st) and Layne Flack all finishing in the cash.

The action continues at the 2013 World Series of Poker today with one of the most star-studded fields of the event doing battle in the $10,000 2-7 Draw Lowball (No-Limit) tournament.
