Bicknell and Sung Triumph At 2013 World Series of Poker

Kristen Bicknell and Steve Sung are the latest bracelet winners at the 2013 World Series of Poker after triumphing in the $10,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship and $25,000 No-Limit Hold’em Six Handed events respectively.

The 2013 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship featured a buy-in of $10,000 for men while all female participants received a 90% percent discount and could buy-in for $1,000, meaning for the first time, the entire field of 954 players was actually comprised of females.

Bicknell was able to outlast them all and take home the first place prize of $173,922 and win yet another WSOP bracelet for Canada – their tenth for the 2013 World Series.

The global popularity of poker with female players was evident by the array of nationalities featured on the final table with players from France, Australia, England, Canada and the United States all battling it out for the bracelet.

This is an excellent sign for the health of the poker world and continues the transformation of the Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship into one of the most prestigious events on the World Series of Poker schedule.

Steve Sung is now a two-time gold bracelet winner after he added victory in the $25,000 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed to his previous triumph in the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em event at the 2009 World Series of Poker.

A number of top players like Marvin Rettenmaier, David Baker, David Benyamine and Jeff Gross made deep runs in the tournament but it was Sung who walked away with the bracelet and the first place prize of $1,205,324 – the largest in his tournament poker career.

Baker’s cash was his eighth at the 2013 World Series of Poker and he is now less than one point behind Daniel Negreanu in the battle for the 2013 WSOP Player of the Year Award.

Sung wasted no time getting back on the tables and is currently taking part in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship.

2010 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Jonathan Duhamel is currently the chip leader in the event from Brian Rast and George Danzer.
