Lock Poker 2013 Player of the Year About to Heat Up!

The 2013 Card Player of the Year race, sponsored by Lock Poker Lock Poker, is getting ready to step up again following a short post-World Series of Poker layoff.

Over the coming weeks, millions of dollars and thousands of ‘Player of the Year’ points will be up for grabs at a number of events, with the current top 20 sure to make some major moves in the race to the finish line.

The overall winner is determined by a number of factors, including money earned, final tables made and of course, titles won.

So far in 2013, a total of 45 players have cashed for over $1 million, with a further 12 of them having cashed for more than $2 million! Heading the list currently is Anthony Gregg, whose earnings currently sit at $5,827,170. While only making two final tables this season, Gregg’s gigantic scores in each have allows him to currently sit in 12th place, with 2,330 Player of the Year points.

One of the major reasons for the Player of the Year award is to recognize consistency throughout a tournament circuit, despite what the final outcome of each event may be. While it is possible to capture the title with only a few final table appearances, it is far more likely to win the Player of the Year if most final tables have been reached. Currently, Ben Palmer tops the list of most final tables made in the 2013 season with 10. While yet to win a registered event, Palmer has cashed for around $335,000, winning 2,158 Player of the Year points.

While money and reaching final tables are obviously an important part of the game, there is something special about being to one to actually take the title. There is currently a seven-way draw between Jan Bendik, Michael Linster, Kent Lundmark, Ray Qartomy, Pawan Braich, Michael Haag and Aaron Massey for most wins accumulated, with three each. Currently, none of these players feature in the top 50 essentially meaning none of their titles have been particularly large.
