The owners of the World Series of Poker have announced this week their plan to launch an online gambling website.
WSOP.com will be the second entry into the online Poker world on Nevada when it opens on Thursday, following Ultimate Gaming; a subsidiary of Las Vegas station casinos, who launched in April this year.
Available to players who live in and visit the state of Nevada, one of only a few states that have legalized online gambling to date, the site will further requite players to be 21 or older.
CEO Mitch Garber discussed the plan with excitement recently, delving further into the services the platform will offer.
“This is a historic moment for our company” Garber said.
“We will bridge land-based and online gaming in ways that have never been seen before”.
General Manager of Online Poker Geoffrey Stewart further discussed the link with Caesars Entertainment Corp, one of the more regulated and established casino operators of physical casinos in the United States, and made it clear the site will now be the only place to win seats at the actual World Series of Poker.
“This opens up a whole new category for the World Series of Poker brand, enabling us to connect with consumers year-round and reach them where they are most today; on digital devices” Stewart said.
Nevada regulatory authorities will monitor the ‘public field trials of cash, sit and go and satellite games’ which include single penny wagers and tournaments with buy-ins that start from as little as $1.10.
Games that have so far been announced include no-limit Texas Hold’em featuring both full table and shorthanded variations, as well as seven card stud and Omaha hi-lo.
