“With two final tables playing out in the same venue just days apart, we’re confident that the launch of WPT Korea will be just the beginning of more WPT events throughout the region in coming seasons.”
Set to feature two Day 1 flights with re-entry, the WPT Korea will also mark a first for the entire World Poker Tour, as it will be the first occasion in the tour’s history that a live final table will be held at the same venue simultaneously.
On the first day of play, the final table of the WPT National China will be moved to Jeju (as previously outlined), where the event will be live streamed for viewing by literally anyone in the world. In order to keep up in the world of gambling games, particularly as online gambling becomes more accessible, convenient and lucrative, the poker industry is continually upping the stakes and sizes of almost everything, pushing the limit and soaring to new, exciting heights.
From the size of tournament entry fields to the cost of a player’s entry and the total sum of the prize pool money offered to participants, the Poker industry has its sights permanently fixed on going one bigger and better and it now seems the Asian Poker Tour (APT) will be picking up the slack in this area.
According to the APT this past week, the tour is aiming to set an all new Guinness World Record for the longest continual Poker tournament in the history of the game.
Penciled in for an attempt at Resorts World Manila in the Philippines from December 11-15, 2013, the record-breaking tournament has been officially named the Asian Poker Tour Resorts World Manila Iron Man Poker Challenge.
Featuring a very affordable buy-in of only $700 and beginning on the third day of the APT Manila event on December 13 at 8:00pm local time, the Iron Man challenge will feature a set of unique and interesting rules, as outlined on the APT website.
Further to only allowing re-entry until level seven of game play, players will note the lack of any scheduled breaks, no chops or deals allowed and the event will only wind to an end after all but one player, the winner, have been knocked out of the competition.
Attempting to set a new benchmark for longest poker tournament, the APT Resorts World Manila Iron Man Poker Challenge will need to overcome the current record, set just over a year ago in Delaware on August 25th, 2012. That particular event, the Delaware Park Iron Man Poker Challenge attracted a total of 192 players and was eventually claimed by Pete Konas for $27,160 after 36 grueling hours, 34 minutes and 11 seconds of play.

Melbourne’s Crown Casino has announced the 2014 Aussie Millions will now be part of the Pokerstars Asia-Pacific Poker Tour after an agreement was reached between the two bodies this past week.
Set to begin on January 23, the 16th annual Aussie Millions will feature the AU$10,600 Main Event on February 2, as well as other draw card competitions the AU$100,000 Challenge and AU$250,000 Challenge.
Crown Resorts Chief Operating Officer Xavier Walsh released a statement regarding the major announcement, highlighting the mutually-beneficial agreement.
“The Aussie Millions is regarded as one of the marquee poker events globally” Walsh said.
“And by aligning with the biggest poker tour in the region, the Asia-Pacific Poker Tour, will further guarantee the event’s success in coming years.
“This initiative will provide Crown with significant exposure in Asia, Europe and America, and for an integral part of Crown’s global marketing strategy to attract further international visitors to Australia and Crown Melbourne”.
Since its inception in 2007, the Asia-Pacific Poker Tour has well and truly put tournament poker on the map throughout the region; hosting the first ever tournament in major gambling destination Macau, awarding the first ever $1million prize in Australia and hosting the first ever televised poker in Asia, just to highlight a few major achievements.
“The Aussie Millions becoming part of the APPT is a great fit for both Crown Melbourne and Global Poker Tours Ltd” APPT President Danny McDonagh said following the announcement.
“Linking one of the best tournaments in the Asia-Pacific with the region’s biggest poker tour benefits everyone.
“Personally, I can’t wait to again be actively involved in one of the very top big buy-in events in the world”.
In seven seasons to date, the APPT has grown to include stops in the Philippines, South Korea, Macau, New Zealand and Australia.

German Poker Professional Philipp Gruissem has claimed his second straight World Poker Tour Alpha8 title after his win in London only a few weeks ago was followed by a victory in the $100,000 buy-in St. Kitts event this past Sunday.
Outlasting a skilled field of 23 players at the Royal Beach Casino, Gruissem claimed an attractive $1,086,400 for his troubles and has now won two of only three Alpha8 high roller events since the inception of the series earlier this year.
Day two of the tournament began with 16 players still in contention for the seven-figure prize; however after hours of play it was a heads-up meeting with Tom McDonald that stood between Gruissem and the major prize.
On the final hand of the match, Gruissem moved all-in prior to the flop with an AH-5D hand, immediately called by McDonald who featured the slightly stronger AD-6C; essentially meaning the champ would have to hit a five to claim the entire pot.
That is precisely what happened when the board turned out JH, 5H, 4C, KS, 10H, securing the second major title in succession for Gruissem and awarding McDonald a healthy $679,000 runners-up check.
As a result of finishing positions, there was a lot of movement all over the Lock Poker Player of the Year table, peaking with Gruissem and fellow final-table player Scott Seiver moving into the overall top 10.
This tournament marked the ninth final table for Seiver this season, who also won the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure super high roller tournament for over $2 million and finished runner-up to Gruissem at the memorable London Alpha8 tournament in October.
Jason Koon, who finished fourth for a cool $298,760 and 300 POY points also made a move, registering his sixth final table of the season and consolidating position 30 on the overall standings sheet.
The St. Kitts event was the last World Poker Tour Alpha8 event for 2013, with play scheduled to resume at the Emperors Palace Hotel Casino in Johannesburg, South Africa in February 2014.
