The Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) may currently be hosting a $1,100 Main Event at the Meskwaki Casino in Tama, Iowa but in less than one week the next Main Event of Season 5 will kick off at Majestic Star Casino in Gary, Indiana - there’s no waiting around in the MSPT!
The series began with a MSPT Main Event $250 qualifier on Saturday. Similar qualifiers will be held on Wednesday, and Thursday at 7:00 PM local time, with a special midday qualifier also to be held on Thursday. Finally, two last-chance $250 qualifiers will be held on Friday and Saturday at 9:30 AM. There will also be $65 Multi-Table Super Satellites, which will see 20% of the field advance to the $250 qualifiers, held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We have been putting the word out about the MSPT since we signed on with them and have been receiving good feedback on Majestic Star hosting this event,” Majestic Star poker room manager Darrell Sangster previously told PokerNews. “We have had many calls about the event. So there has been a general buzz about this MSPT event.”
Majestic Star Bonus Events are also scheduled throughout the week, including:
- $80 No-Limit Hold’em at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30
- $55 No-Limit Hold’em at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 3
- $60 No-Limit Hold’em at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 3
The MSPT is no stranger to the Majestic Star casino, having already stopped there in its fifth season. Back in March, Ken Baime of Glenview, Illinois topped a field of 301 players to win the $77,681 first-place prize.
“Bryan Mileski and the MSPT staff are great. They were always present and very accessible. They take their job very seriously and run a great tournament and were constantly hustling all over the place,” Baime told PokerNews. “I also really like the players in this tournament. One of the goals of the MSPT is to be accessible to recreational players and players with jobs. So, while the tournament had its share of pros and semi-pros, there were also a number of people with jobs. So, even though it was an $1,100 buy-in tournament, the general vibe was very relaxed and fun.”
The Main Event will be held over three days, kicking off at Majestic Star casino on Friday at 4 PM with Day 1a. This first day will contain 14 levels for players to get through. Saturday’s Day 1b will also begin at 4 PM and play the same number of levels. The remaining players from each two flights will combine on Sunday morning at 10 AM to play for the championship.
