2015 Aussie Millions Schedule Announced

by | Published: Tuesday, August 5th, 2014

Last Friday, Crown Melbourne announced its schedule for the illustrious Aussie Millions Poker Championship in 2015. The series will kick off the New Year, beginning on Wednesday, January 14 and running through to Monday, February 2, 2015. It will consist of 21 events.

The winner of the Main Event will take home an estimated AU$1.6 million. This is the same grand prize Ami Barer took home in this year’s event, which was an event to remember. Barer topped a field of 668 players, defeating Sorel Mizzi along with an entire final table of poker pros in a final day that lasted a grueling 12 hours.

Also returning to the schedule for another year are the mouth-watering big buy-in “Challenge” events, which include the: $25,000 Challenge, $100,000 Challenge, and LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge. These “Challenge” tournaments draw impressive numbers, which aren’t limited to the impressive Main Event. In 2014, the $25K Challenge received 65 entries, the $100K Challenge drew 76 entries, and Phil Ivey topped a field of 46 entries to take out the LK Boutique $250K Challenge.

“Crown Melbourne’s Aussie Millions Poker Championship has effectively become one of the top poker majors and a favorite amongst some of the most renowned players in the world,” said Crown Melbourne’s Director of Poker Jim Preston. “And the stage has never been brighter.”

In 2014, the Aussie Millions Main Event partnered with the PokerStars.net Asia-Pacific Poker Tour for the first time, and following a successful run it appears the partnership will remain in 2015. Because of the partnership, the Aussie Millions schedule has to be pushed back to begin later in January. This is to allow players the chance to compete in both the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and the Aussie Millions. The PCA is scheduled to take place from January 6-14 in 2015, which means players travelling on to Melbourne won’t miss the majority of the Aussie Millions schedule.

2014 Aussie Millions Teams up with APPT

by | Published: Thursday, November 21st, 2013

Melbourne’s Crown Casino has announced the 2014 Aussie Millions will now be part of the Pokerstars Pokerstars Asia-Pacific Poker Tour after an agreement was reached between the two bodies this past week.

Set to begin on January 23, the 16th annual Aussie Millions will feature the AU$10,600 Main Event on February 2, as well as other draw card competitions the AU$100,000 Challenge and AU$250,000 Challenge.

Crown Resorts Chief Operating Officer Xavier Walsh released a statement regarding the major announcement, highlighting the mutually-beneficial agreement.

“The Aussie Millions is regarded as one of the marquee poker events globally” Walsh said.

“And by aligning with the biggest poker tour in the region, the Asia-Pacific Poker Tour, will further guarantee the event’s success in coming years.

“This initiative will provide Crown with significant exposure in Asia, Europe and America, and for an integral part of Crown’s global marketing strategy to attract further international visitors to Australia and Crown Melbourne”.

Since its inception in 2007, the Asia-Pacific Poker Tour has well and truly put tournament poker on the map throughout the region; hosting the first ever tournament in major gambling destination Macau, awarding the first ever $1million prize in Australia and hosting the first ever televised poker in Asia, just to highlight a few major achievements.

“The Aussie Millions becoming part of the APPT is a great fit for both Crown Melbourne and Global Poker Tours Ltd” APPT President Danny McDonagh said following the announcement.

“Linking one of the best tournaments in the Asia-Pacific with the region’s biggest poker tour benefits everyone.

“Personally, I can’t wait to again be actively involved in one of the very top big buy-in events in the world”.

In seven seasons to date, the APPT has grown to include stops in the Philippines, South Korea, Macau, New Zealand and Australia.
