The 2013 World Series of Poker is well and truly underway with three gold bracelets awarded over the weekend.

Holloway Wins Casino Employees No-Limit Hold’em Championship

Poker writer Chad Holloway survived a ninety minute heads-up battle to win the opening event of the 2013 World Series of Poker.

Holloway pocked $84,915 and his first ever World Series of Poker Gold Bracelet by outlasting a field of 898 players to win the $500 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold’em event.

Holloway went into the heads-up battle with a slight lead but that quickly evaporated when Allan Kwong doubled through him to take the lead.

However, spurred on by a massive band of supporters Holloway was able to reclaim the lead and eventually seal his first major tournament victory.

Trevor Pope Wins $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Eight Handed

Trevor Pope produced a dominant performance to win the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Eight Handed at the 2013 World Series of Poker.

Pope went into the final table with half the chips in play and wasted no time using his massive stack to completely crush the table.

Pope eliminated six of the other seven players at the final table and required only six hands to defeat David Vamplew for his first live tournament victory.

The $ 553,906 payday was the biggest of Pope’s poker career and based on his performance he has a big future ahead of him.

Sylvestre Wins $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Re-Entry

Charles Sylvestre defeated a strong field to win the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Re-Entry and his inaugural WSOP bracelet.

Ryan Olisar, Nam Le, Ryan Tepen, Jonathan Tamayo and Scott Seiver all made deep runs in this tournament but were outlasted by Sylvestre who took home the first place prize of $491,360.

The Canadian, who finished 465th in the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event, was clearly delighted at the biggest score of his career and promised big things for the remainder of the World Series of Poker.

The 2013 World Series of Poker continues today with Joe Cada attempting to become the first Main Event winner since Carlos Mortensen to win another bracelet in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em six-handed event.
