Nevada Passes Online Poker Bill

by | Published: Sunday, March 3rd, 2013

Nevada has passed a historic bill that makes it legal to play online poker within the state and with other players across the country.

The bill was passed unanimously in the Assembly and the Senate before it was signed by Governor Brian Sandoval.

The bill was pushed through as an emergency measure as Nevada was desperate to legalize the bill before New Jersey possibly passes a similar bill next week.

Governor Sandoval was delighted that the bill was passed without any hiccups.

“This is an historic day for the great state of Nevada,” Sandoval said.

“Today I sign into law the framework that will usher in the next frontier of gaming in Nevada.

“This bill is critical to our state’s economy and ensures that we will continue to be the gold standard for gaming regulation.”

A.G. Burnett, Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board is confident that Nevada will be able to link up with other states that legalize online poker without being stopped by the federal government.

“We feel pretty certain that an agreement with another state would be legal because it is some form of compact,” Burnett said.

“We are being cautious and researching so that we do things appropriately.

“We are not going too fast and don’t want to offend the federal government in any way but we need to allow our licensees to compete.”

In further good news for online poker players American Gaming Association Chairman Frank Fahrenkopf believes a Federal online poker bill may enter the house in the next two weeks despite a previous bill stalling just two months ago.

“There’s still an effort in the House,” Fahrenkopf said.

“Plus, I think the activity of a number of states, particularly Delaware where they authorized all forms of casino games, could result in the largest expansion of legal gaming in this country’s history if states start to emulate what Delaware did.”

The Poker Player’s Alliance is yet to make a public statement but is reportedly delighted with the news.
