Alt Wins ANZPT Sydney Main Event

by | Published: Monday, March 25th, 2013

Dinesh Alt won the Sydney Main Event of the Pokerstars Pokerstars Australia New Zealand Poker Tour at Sky City Casino this weekend.

Alt ended the amazing run of Dejan Divkovic, who was looking to claim back to back ANZPT titles, and took home the first place prize of $226,320.

It looked as though Divkovic was going to win his second ANZPT trophy when he took the lead at the start of the heads-up battle but his chip stack was crippled when he went all-in with a set of sixes only to be called by Alt who had a jack-high straight.

Alt travelled all the way from Switzerland for the event and was delighted to have claimed victory after an extremely long final table.

“I am feeling very good, I’ve never had this feeling before because I’ve never won much money before and this is my first big event,” Alt said.

Alt won a qualifier at Pokerstars Pokerstars and has managed to turn his initial outlay of $40 into $226,320 and an ANZPT Trophy.

“I just can’t believe it, it is very cool,” Alt said.

The final table was stacked with poker talent with ANZPT Perth winner Divkovic and Australian poker legend Gary Benson both taking big stacks into the final day of the event while Alt had one of the smallest stacks at the table.

“I had a lot of luck as I was a small stack and won two all-ins,” the Switzerland native said.

“I had some good hands and I just tried to play my best.”

The result was Alt’s first cash in a live poker tournament as before yesterday he could even be found on the Hendon Poker database.

Pokerstars Pokerstars is regularly holding qualifying events for major poker tournaments all over the world.

Weekend Tournament Poker Round-Up

Vladimir Bozinovic won the World Poker Tour Baden €3,300 Main Event on Sunday, denying Marvin Rettenmaier his third World Poker Tour title.

Rettenmaier entered the final table of the event looking to join Gus Hansen and Carlos Mortensen as the only players to achieve three career victories on the World Poker Tour but fell short when he was eliminated in fifth place by Kimmo Kurko.

Bozinovic took advantage of Rettenmaier’s early departure to dominate the concluding stages of the final table and take home the first place prize of $271,258, including a $25,500 entry to the WPT World Championship.

The young Serbian has been a grinder on the Belgrade poker scene for a number of years and this result was easily the biggest cash of his career.

Rettenmaier has moved into second in the race for World Poker Tour Player of the Year and is now only 700 points behind leader Matt Salsberg.

On the other side of the world Bosnian Dejan Divkovic claimed the 2013 ANZPT Perth Main Event Title and the first place prize of $114,000.

For the first time in ANZPT history two nationalities from outside Australia and New Zealand were represented in the heads-up battle with Divkovic facing Japanese pro Iori Yogo.

Yogo took a narrow lead early in the heads-up battle but Divkovic all but wrapped up the tournament when he won a massive hand holding a set of threes.

Divkovic clinched the tournament just a few hands later to become the first Bosnian to win an ANZPT Title.

Divkovic was delighted with the result and said that it was his first ever live tournament victory and the biggest cash win of his career.

The tournament action is continuing in the United States with the opening day of the World Poker Tour Los Angeles Poker Classic just completed.

There are 375 players left in the event with 2005 World Series of Poker Champion Joe Hachem currently sitting in fifth position.

Dimitar Danchev Wins 2013 Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure Main Event

by | Published: Tuesday, January 15th, 2013

Bulgarian Dimitar Danchev has outlasted a field of 986 players to win the 2013 Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure Main Event.

The victory was easily the biggest of the twenty-seven year-old’s career as he took home the first place prize of $1,859,000 from the monster prize pool of $ 9,573,900.

The victory was the first ever European Poker Tour victory for a Bulgarian and puts Danchev well and truly on top of the all-time Bulgarian tournament winnings leaderboard.

Danchev was delighted to have achieved his first major tournament victory especially in front of a large group of friends and Bulgarian supporters.

“It feels amazing, really,” Danchev said.

“I really felt the support.

“This is for them, too.”

The star of Bulgarian Poker hopes that his success can lead to a boom period in Bulgarian poker and more players from his country scoring big tournament victories.

“This is a big thing for my country,” Danchev said.

“Bulgaria poker is developing really good and will be top level very soon.”

Danchev finished second in the 2011 European Poker Tour San Remo Main Event, after being a massive favorite to win the final hand, and said the disappointment of that loss motivated him to finish the job yesterday.

The 2013 Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure has had a major international flavor with Australian Grant Levy adding to the list of non-American players who have had won a bracelet in the event by capturing the $5,300 six-max title.

Levy has been one of the most consistent players on the Australian Poker circuit claiming victory in the Main Event of the 2007 APPT Sydney and the 2011 ANZPT Perth title.

The Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure tournament concludes with the stacked final table of the $25,000 High Roller.

Still remaining in the hunt to claim the bracelet is Vanessa Selbst who is guaranteed to become the all-time winningest female live tournament poker player no matter where she finishes at the final table.

The Caribbean Adventure event is sponsored by Poker Stars and you can prepare for next year’s event by joining all the leading players online!
