World Record Falls in Philippines Tournament

by | Published: Wednesday, December 18th, 2013

World records continue to drop in the world of Poker in 2013, as American Damon Shulenberger claimed the APT Resorts World Manila Iron Man Poker Challenge in the Philippines to set a new benchmark of 48 hours, 55 minutes and 58.5 second for the ‘Longest Continuous Poker Tournament’.

Smashing the previous record of 36 hours, 34 minutes and 41 seconds set by Peter Konos in Delaware last season, Shulenberger managed to out-wit, outplay and outlast a total of 114 fellow competitors to record his place in history and walk away with the $18,240 winner’s check.

“I have never experienced anything like it in my life” a dazed yet excited Shulenberger said following the final hand.

“Not only going without sleep for two nights straight but I started at level 1 at 8PM and never left the table for five minutes, until almost 50 hours later, with winning the championship.

“I don’t think I’ll play poker again for at least a month.”

Following a four-hour long heads up round, it was Korea’s Choi Byung Kyoo who claimed second prize and a healthy $10,670 check for his troubles.

After remaining in with a shot for almost the entire round, the short-stacked Kyoo played his remaining chips with a hand of King-Seven off suit, immediately called by Shulenberger who had been concealing an Ace-Four off suit. The board ran Ace-Two-Three-Jack-Ten to pair up Shulenberger’s Aces and deliver the US native the monumental title.

“I am most a casual player, so whereas some people like to play all night, all day I’ve always maintained a commitment to sleeping by at least 2a.m. or 3a.m. so I never did an all-nighter like some of my friends” Shulenberger concluded.

Rounding out the top five were German Sandro Simon, Lim Dae Hoon of Korea and local Florencio Campomanes.

Asian Poker Tour Aiming for World Record

by | Published: Sunday, November 24th, 2013

In order to keep up in the world of gambling games, particularly as online gambling becomes more accessible, convenient and lucrative, the poker industry is continually upping the stakes and sizes of almost everything, pushing the limit and soaring to new, exciting heights.

From the size of tournament entry fields to the cost of a player’s entry and the total sum of the prize pool money offered to participants, the Poker industry has its sights permanently fixed on going one bigger and better and it now seems the Asian Poker Tour (APT) will be picking up the slack in this area.

According to the APT this past week, the tour is aiming to set an all new Guinness World Record for the longest continual Poker tournament in the history of the game.

Penciled in for an attempt at Resorts World Manila in the Philippines from December 11-15, 2013, the record-breaking tournament has been officially named the Asian Poker Tour Resorts World Manila Iron Man Poker Challenge.

Featuring a very affordable buy-in of only $700 and beginning on the third day of the APT Manila event on December 13 at 8:00pm local time, the Iron Man challenge will feature a set of unique and interesting rules, as outlined on the APT website.

Further to only allowing re-entry until level seven of game play, players will note the lack of any scheduled breaks, no chops or deals allowed and the event will only wind to an end after all but one player, the winner, have been knocked out of the competition.

Attempting to set a new benchmark for longest poker tournament, the APT Resorts World Manila Iron Man Poker Challenge will need to overcome the current record, set just over a year ago in Delaware on August 25th, 2012. That particular event, the Delaware Park Iron Man Poker Challenge attracted a total of 192 players and was eventually claimed by Pete Konas for $27,160 after 36 grueling hours, 34 minutes and 11 seconds of play.
