The Global Poker Index releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world every week, using a formula that rates a player’s results over six half-year periods. The GPI also ranks the top performing players of the year over two six-month periods, using the USA Today Global Poker Index point system to calculate.
2014 GPI Player of the Year
After Dan Heimiller’s efforts over the past couple of weeks, with wins at the Chicago Poker Classic, he’s broken back into the Top 10 GPI Player of the Year race – straight into 9th place. Heimiller finished 61st in the Heartland Poker Tour California State Poker Championship this week, and his 21st cash prize of 2014 shot him straight back into the top 10.
Jeff Madsen, winner of the California State Poker Championship, is now right outside the top 10 at No. 11 position. His win netted him $160,060 to his pockets and shot him up 13 places on the list.
Keven Stammen remains at the top of the POY race with close to 900 points, but his score hasn’t changed since last week. Neither has second placer Ole Schemion behind by just 90 points, who also happened to win the 2013 GPI Play of the Year.
GPI 300 Top 10
Schemion may still be trailing to Stammen in the Player of the Year race, but he’s well and truly out in front in the Top 10 of the GPI 300 players. With a score of 3971.85, he’s over 260 points clear of his nearest rival Scott Seiver.
Mike McDonald is back in the top 10, jumping seven places to land at No. 9. The player nicknamed “Timex” has cashed only two prizes since his Aussie Millions win, but three of his first four wins were for over one million dollars, which gives him some leeway.
Elsewhere in the top 10, Philipp Gruissem dropped three places to No. 6. The German’s score will only continue to fall, since his score from the GuangDong Asia Millions will fall into Zone 3 in a few weeks’ time. Marvin Rettenmaier, Vanessa Selbst, and Byron Kaverman all benefitted from his slide, moving up one spot each.
