Joseph McKeehen produced one of the most dominating performances in the history of the World Series of Poker National Circuit to win the Main Event Championship at Caesars Atlantic City yesterday.

The twenty-one-year-old crushed the field of 540 players to win the first place prize of $174,147 as well as a World Series of Poker Circuit Gold Ring.

McKeehen dominated the tournament from start to finish and by the start of the final table had well over the half the chips in play.

A modest McKeehen admitted that he had his fair share of good luck during the tournament.

“I had everything go my way, that’s for sure,” McKeehen said.

“What really helped was when I would get pocket aces, someone else would get a hand almost as good, and that’s really critical because you need to get paid off when you get big hands.”

Despite winning $174,147 McKeehen does not plan on playing poker fulltime and is determined to finish his math degree at Arcadia University.

“I’m not sure what I will do, but I am going to keep playing poker as long as things go well,” McKeehen said.

“I enjoying math, I like to solve problems

“If not, I might get into statistics or something like that.”

At only twenty-one years of age McKeehen has already put together a very impressive poker resume.

He has over thirty cashes to his name as well as a victory in the $ 2,000 No Limit Hold’em Turbo Event at the 2012 Pokerstars Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure.

McKeehen had a brief stint at the 2012 World Series of Poker and said he can’t wait to go back in 2013.

“When I went out to the World Series at the end of last year it wasn’t at all what I was expecting,” McKeehen said.

“It was much bigger than I envisioned and even more impressive.

“I can’t wait to get back, but first, my focus is going to be on the National Championship.”

Without a doubt McKeehen will now be on everybody’s radar heading into the World Series of Poker National Championship.
