Davidi Kitai Wins Second WSOP Bracelet

by | Published: Thursday, June 13th, 2013

Davidi Kitai defeated a strong final table to win the $5,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em event at the 2013 World Series of Poker to become the first player from Belgium to win two WSOP bracelets.

Although the Pot-Limit event only drew a small field of 195 players it was packed full of talent and Kitai thoroughly deserved the first place prize of $224,560 for his consistent play throughout the tournament.

The final table had a very European field with Kitai joined by Bulgarian Dimitar Danchev, Ukrainian  Eugene Katchalov, Frenchmen Bertrand Grospellier and Italian Dario Minieri.

Minireri, Grospellier and Katchalov were all aiming to add to their World Series of Poker bracelet collections but were eliminated in eighth, seventh and fifth place respectively as Kitai cultivated his chip lead.

Kitai maintained his chip lead all the way to the heads-up battle but faced a tough challenge against Cary Katz who came up firing and stole the chip lead early into the contest.

The Belgian managed to battle back but received a great deal of luck to wrap up the victory when his Pocket Jacks outflopped the Pocket Kings of Katz.

Kitai was delighted with the victory but said it still couldn’t top his first World Series of Poker victory.

“The first one was so special and it changed my poker career but it is good to confirm that I can win again,” Kitai said.

The thirty-three-year-old is Belgium’s most successful tournament poker player in history and he said the game is becoming increasingly popular in his homeland.

“Poker became popular the last few years because it is now legal and some people recognize me,” Kitai said.

Kitai has now recorded $ 3,161,463 in tournament cashes overall and with this score has now won over $1 million at the World Series of Poker but he still has plenty he wants to achieve in his career.

“My dream is to make the final table of the WSOP Main Event,” Kitai said.

“I do have a lot of dreams and I am motivated to achieve even more.”
