The Heartland Poker Tour Golden Gates Casino & Poker Parlour in Black Hawk, CO. came to a close on Monday.
The $1,650 buy-in Main Event attracted 713 entrants, who helped create a whopping $1,048,110 prize pool. The tournament attracted a number of notable poker stars such as Greg Raymer, Bryan Devonshire, and Dan O’Brien, yet despite all this it was 73 year-old retiree Doug Milner from Salt Lake City, UT who emerged victorious in the event and earning the $230,582 first-place prize pool.
Max Chrisp was the first one eliminated from the final table despite an early double. “I hope to see you guys in the future at another Final Table,” Chrisp said as he made his way to the payout desk to collect $20,962 for his ninth-place finish.
Dan Heimiller, the most accomplished player at the table, was shockingly the next to go. Heimiller was the headliner of the final table due to his $4 million career winnings, eight wins, and 54 final table appearances. Despite this, he was beaten by Colin York’s rivered full house, earning him eighth place and $25,679.
In another surprising twist, Keith Love was the next elimination despite beginning the final table as chip leader. He was soon followed by Adam Hudson and Steven Levy, who were both eliminated on the same hand by York. They finished in sixth and fifth place, respectively.
York went on to dispatch both James Richards and Ryan White, which set up a heads-up match between Milner and York. They lasted a marathon 111 hands, one of the longest in HPT history, but came to a head in Level 36. York was in need of some help, but the board was against him this time. He had to settle for runner-up and $142,857 while Milner became the latest HPT champ and took home the $230,582 top prize.
“$230,000 will change my lifestyle,” said the champ. “I am comfortable retired but not overly retired.”
