Daniel Pidun Wins European Poker Tour Berlin Main Event

by | Published: Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Daniel Pidun has steamrolled the final table to win the European Poker Tour Berlin Main Event.

It took Pidun just six hours to claim victory and he took home €880,000 as well as a European Poker Tour Trophy for his efforts.

After working hard to qualify for the final table Pidun changed gears on the final day of the tournament and dominated from start to finish.

“Yesterday I started pretty good and then during the day I lost a lot of my stack and I was worried I was going to be the final table bubble boy again but thank god I won some hands and I avoided it,” Pdiun said.

Pidun took the chip lead early in the final table and used his big stack to perfection, putting constant pressure on the short stacks.

By the time the tournament was three-handed Pidun had accumulated an almost unassailable chip lead and he wasted no time eliminating Lasse Frost and Robert Haigh to win his first major poker tournament.

It was an incredible effort by the amateur poker player who has been playing the game for less than five years.

“My brother brought me to poker,” Pidun said.

“He was always speaking with his friends about poker; about the flop, turn and river; I didn’t even understand what those words meant.

“After a while I became more interested and I started playing.

“I played a tournament at my local casino and finished second, which won me a ticket into the EPT Dortmund event.”

Pidun has turned that ticket into a lucrative poker career and he now made over $1 million playing live tournament poker.

Despite the massive monetary windfall the father of two doesn’t believe this victory will change his life.

“It is a nice prize pool but it won’t change my life a lot, it will just make my life a little easier,” Pidun said.

We have almost reached the conclusion of Season 9 of the European Poker Tour with the EPT Grand Final kicking off on May 6th in Monte Carlo.

EPT Berlin Main Event Enters Final Stages

by | Published: Friday, April 26th, 2013

After day four of the European Poker Tour Berlin Main Event there are only seventeen players left in the hunt for the title and the first place prize of € 880,000.

Hometown hero Roman Herold is currently the chip leader and holds a massive 4,485,000 in chips.

Herold won a massive pot against former chip-leader Aku Joentausta and continued to add to his monster chip stack throughout the night.

No matter where he finishes Herold will improve on his previous best tournament payday of € 20,000 that he won for finishing thirty-fifth in the European Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event.

Herold’s closest rival is Russian Dashgyn Aliev who currently has 3,931,000 in chips.

Aliev won the biggest pot of the day when he took down 1.6 million in chips and eliminated Colin Moffat and Daniel Reijmer.

Khiem Nguyen is one of the most experienced players remaining in the tournament and is currently sitting in third position with a chip stack of 2,788,000.

Nguyen has had previous success on the European Poker Tour, winning the € 1,000 Pot Limit Omaha Rebuy during the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo, and has been a consistent performer on the tournament circuit.

The biggest name remaining in the tournament is Olivier Busquet who is in fourteenth position with 736,000 in chips.

Busquet would desperately love to win this tournament to make up for his disappointment after finishing second the Main Event of the European Poker Tour Campione last year.

The New York native has been in good form so far in 2013 and has cashed in the Pokerstars Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure, World Poker Tour Borgata Winter Poker Open, Big Stax Poker Series and the Card Player Poker Tour.

Play resumes later today and will continue until a final table of eight players is reached.

Mizrachi Off To A Strong Start in EPT Berlin Main Event

by | Published: Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013

Leading professional poker player Michael Mizrachi is well placed after the opening day of the 2013 European Poker Tour Berlin Main Event.

“The Grinder” finished Day 1b of the tournament as the chip leader and is currently sitting in fourth place overall with 175,400 in chips.

Mizrachi isn’t a regular on the European Poker Tour but is well placed to add an EPT Title to his three World Series of Poker bracelets and his two World Poker Tour Titles.

“I haven’t played many EPT events, I think this might only be my third one,” Mizrachi told Poker News.

“I am coming here because my brother is actually DJing at the 42nd Club on Wednesday.

“I came out for that and there was a tournament here so I thought why not come out a few days earlier.”

Mizrachi was full of his typical confidence and said he was looking forward to Wednesday night as a celebration for his tournament victory.

“It should be a great party but first I have to take care of business so that I can have money to spend on Wednesday night,” Mizrachi said.

“I’m looking forward to winning this tournament and having a great turnout.”

Mizrachi still has a long way to go to win the tournament with 314 players still remaining in contention.

Ronny Voth (196,100) is the current chip leader with Mike Kunze (188,000), Thomas Richter (176,100), Mizrachi (175,400) and Sebastian Trisch (173,500) rounding out the top five.

Notable players who were eliminated on the opening day of the tournament included: Paul Volpe, David Williams, Mike McDonald, Justin Bonomo and Rupert Elder.

The tournament continues today with flights A and B coming together for day two of the event.

The remaining players are doing battle for a total prize pool of €4,560,000 and a first place prize of €880,000.
