Leading professional poker player Michael Mizrachi is well placed after the opening day of the 2013 European Poker Tour Berlin Main Event.
“The Grinder” finished Day 1b of the tournament as the chip leader and is currently sitting in fourth place overall with 175,400 in chips.
Mizrachi isn’t a regular on the European Poker Tour but is well placed to add an EPT Title to his three World Series of Poker bracelets and his two World Poker Tour Titles.
“I haven’t played many EPT events, I think this might only be my third one,” Mizrachi told Poker News.
“I am coming here because my brother is actually DJing at the 42nd Club on Wednesday.
“I came out for that and there was a tournament here so I thought why not come out a few days earlier.”
Mizrachi was full of his typical confidence and said he was looking forward to Wednesday night as a celebration for his tournament victory.
“It should be a great party but first I have to take care of business so that I can have money to spend on Wednesday night,” Mizrachi said.
“I’m looking forward to winning this tournament and having a great turnout.”
Mizrachi still has a long way to go to win the tournament with 314 players still remaining in contention.
Ronny Voth (196,100) is the current chip leader with Mike Kunze (188,000), Thomas Richter (176,100), Mizrachi (175,400) and Sebastian Trisch (173,500) rounding out the top five.
Notable players who were eliminated on the opening day of the tournament included: Paul Volpe, David Williams, Mike McDonald, Justin Bonomo and Rupert Elder.
The tournament continues today with flights A and B coming together for day two of the event.
The remaining players are doing battle for a total prize pool of €4,560,000 and a first place prize of €880,000.
