Dan Colman Wins Yet Another Poker Event

by | Published: Sunday, September 7th, 2014

Before April, hardly anyone would have been able to tell you who Dan Colman was. But with three big poker event wins under his belt in just five months, he’s become a household name in the poker world.

Colman, who went on to win the World Series of Poker $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop in July as well as finishing runner-up in last month’s EPT Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller, added another $1,446,710 to his yearly winnings on Wednesday when he beat a field of 1,499 players to take out the $5,300 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open.

Colman outlasted a tough final table to claim his staggering fourth seven-figure score of 2014. He now has more than $20,000,000 in cashes since April under his belt, and has climbed past Phil Ivey into third place on poker’s all-time list behind Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari.

2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Results

Seat Player Prize
1 Dan Colman $1,446,710
2 Mike Leah $1,047,638
3 Shawn Cunix $748,313
4 John Dolan $548,763
5 Joe Kuether $424,044
6 Martin Hanowski $324,269

Colman didn’t begin Wednesday’s final table in the lead, he had to work for it. He trailed to Mike Leah in chips but it didn’t take the poker wunderkind long to command the table. After John Dolan eliminated Martin Hanowski in 6th place, Colman got all of Joe Kuether’s chips. Dolan himself exited a few hands later, and his strike also came from Colman.

It then came down to three-handed play, with the lead shifting back into Leah’s favor.  However, Colman reclaimed the pole position after eliminating Shawn Cunix in 3rd place.

Colman then took 25,450,000 into heads-up play against Leah’s 19,550,000. The heads-up sit-and-go specialist, who has become known for his impressive knack for closing the deal, grinded Leah down to 11,500,000 before finishing him for good.

Dan Colman is undoubtedly becoming a fantastic professional poker player. Where will he strike next? How many more wins will he add to his season belt? Only time will tell. But one thing for sure, the entire poker world will be watching his every move with anticipation and excitement.

Mike Leah Wins World Series of Poker Horseshoe Hammond Casino Championship

by | Published: Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

Mike Leah has become the first Canadian to win a World Series of Poker Circuit Casino Championship with his consistent performances at the Horseshoe Hammond event this week.

The experienced pro finished third in the $365 Pot-Limit Omaha tournament, fourth in the $365 No-Limit Hold’em event and made a deep run in the $1675 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event.

Leah is the first non-American to earn a trip to New Orleans in May for the $1 million World Series of Poker National Championship and would have to be considered one of the favorites heading into the free roll event.

The Toronto native was pleased to have claimed the Casino Championship but said he would have liked to also be taking home a World Series of Poker Circuit Event ring.

“It feels good [winning the Casino Championship] but it would have been nice to win an event as well but this is a nice consolation price,” Leah said.

“One of the events I final tabled in had 700 people and the Main had over 1500 people so it was some pretty big fields to go deep in.”

Leah nominated for all twelve tournaments that were played at the Horseshoe Hammond during the week and said he enjoyed playing at the unique casino.

“The tournaments were good, well run as the staff hear are excellent,” he said.

“There are a few rules that are a little bit different to some places but overall it was a good experience and a really nice play to come to.”

The World Series of Poker Circuit tour rolls on with the next event commencing at River Rock Casino on Saturday.
