Nine-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey may not have had a successful first four months of 2014, but after playing two successful days of online poker this week he’s back on track. Profits of $410,341 from games played during Monday to Wednesday have helped Ivey put his name back on top of the list of online poker’s biggest winners.
Ivey’s majority of profits came on Tuesday, when he closed as the day’s biggest winner after bringing home a $441,380 payday accumulated from 835 hands played in six different poker sessions.
More than half of his winnings on Tuesday came during a late-morning session at the $1,500/$3,000 8-game table. He took on opponents such as Viktor Blom and Patrik Antonius, taking out a total of 188 hands and a $235,500 profit.
Ivey managed to take out another $152,000 win when he went up against Blom later in the day playing heads up.
He played another winning session on Wednesday, albeit with less grand winnings. Ivey played a total of 695 hands in four sessions, taking home an overall win of $74,357. Despite the huge win, which netted him the position of second biggest online winner of the week with an overall profit of $410,341, Ivey is still down $2.3 million since the beginning of 2014.
Hac Dang took out the title of biggest online winner of the week, after taking home a total of $513,724 in winnings since last Monday. His playing trajectory was exactly the same as Ivey’s: he started the week with a loss of $44,167, before getting back on track on Tuesday with a winning total of $346,394. By Wednesday he closed the day as the biggest winner with a profit of $211,512 after 491 hands.

The sixth edition of the Party Poker Premier League will be held in London’s Aspers Casino from the 17th to the 23rd of March.
Party Poker said the event will feature sixteen of the best players in the world and if the first four names announced for the tournament are any indication this could be one of the most exciting television poker events of the year.
Defending champion Scott Seiver, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth and Antonio Esfandiari have all confirmed that they will be playing in the event.
Seiver has an amazing run in the Premier League last year defeating poker superstars Phil Laak, Sam Trickett and Patrik Antonius on his way to claiming the title and the $500,000 first place prize.
Seiver is excited to return to the event and is aiming to become the first player to win the Premier League Title back to back.
“I really enjoyed the interesting format last year and it was great to win,” Seiver said.
“I am looking forward to defending my title.”
The ever popular Negreanu will return to the tournament for the first time since season IV and said he was really looking forward to face off against other world class poker players.
“I’m really excited to be back playing the Premier League this year,” Negreanu said.
“I love the format and unique events like this are great for poker.
“I’m honored to be invited and happily support the event and plan on winning it.”
Hellmuth had great success in Europe last year, winning the 2012 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event, and said he was keen to add another honor to his incredible poker resume.
“I am looking forward to competing in the Premier League: 16 players, 1 winner,” Hellmuth said.
Hellmuth will be joined by Big One For One Drop winner and occasional nemesis Antonio Esfandiari who will be making his Premier League Poker debut.
“For years I have been hearing about Premier League Poker and it’s nice to finally make it over there to play in it,” Esfandiari said.
The Premier League will maintain its unique format in 2013 with the sixteen players being split into two separate groups before battling it out to win a seat at the final table of the event.
The tournament will run alongside the inaugural Party Poker World Poker Tour National London Event.

Mervin Chan overcame 629 other players and a star-studded final table to win the 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event yesterday.
The twenty-nine year-old took home the first place prizemoney of $1.6 million as well as the diamond-encrusted Aussie Millions bracelet, a glass trophy and a new Chrysler 300C valued at over AUD$50,000.
Chan was clearly overwhelmed to have scored the biggest victory of his poker career.
“I am speechless but I’m feeling great, I can’t ask for more,” Chan said.
Chan was short-stacked for a large part of the final table and said he needed considerable luck to put himself back in contention.
“When it was five-handed I was down to about a million in chips but I got pretty lucky when I climbed two spots, when fourth and fifth got eliminated, and I doubled up a few times which got me in the game again,” Chan said.
Play on the first day of the final table went for an incredible fourteen hours before tournament officials made the decision to suspend the event, a decision that Chan said he was very happy about.
“I was happy because I was really, really tired and I could get some rest and start fresh again which really helped,” he said.
“We had played for too long and we were like I can’t think anymore.”
The defining moment of the tournament for Chan came when he doubled through poker superstar Patrik Antonius, when the tournament was three-handed, which crippled the Finn who was eliminated on the very next hand.
Chan rode this momentum into the heads-up battle and took only a few hands to eliminate Joseph Cabret and claim the Aussie Millions Crown.
Chan is only new to the live tournament poker scene and got his grounding in the game by playing online.

Poker superstars Patrik Antonius and Phil Ivey are among thirty-six players still in contention to win the 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event.
Antonius had a stellar day 3 and is now in second position just 87,000 chips behind chip-leader Ray Ellis.
The Finish phenom controlled his table for much of the day but really added to his chip stack when he eliminated Wei Low while holding pocket aces.
As usual Phil Ivey was heavily involved in the action despite starting the day with a relatively low chip-stack.
Early on day three Ivey got his aces all-in against Gary Kane’s Ace-King and when the board was no help to Kane, Ivey was back in the tournament.
Ivey continued his run of eliminating players when the tournament was on the bubble.
Australian Poker Hall of Famer Gary Benson felt good when he got his remaining chip-stack all-in while holding pocket tens but was crushed when Ivey turned over his own pair of pocket jacks.
Benson needed some luck and got it on the flop when he hit a ten to make a set but couldn’t avoid a nine on the river that gave Ivey a straight.
However, Ivey had his share of bad luck throughout the day and heads into day four with just under 400,000 in chips.
In an interesting twist to a regular tournament format the remaining thirty-six players will now be split into six tables of six players each.
It is expected to be a long grind to the final table as they will be playing down to a table of six.
