by | Published: Sunday, April 21st, 2013

Pieter de Korver has defeated a monster of field of 911 players to win the inaugural staging of the Berlin Cup that was held during the European Poker Tour Berlin event on Sunday.

Korver took home the first place prize of €145,400 and continued his stellar run of form in the last twelve months.

The Dutchmen was happy and relieved that the tournament was over after a grueling four days of play.

“It has been four days with no sleep, I really love Poker but it is taking so much energy out of me,” de Korver said.

“To win the tournament is great but I am so tired.”

De Korver has had previous success at the European Poker Tour, winning the Season 5 Grand Final in Monte Carlo in 2009, but was making his return to the event for the first time in over two years.

“It is very nice to be able to do this again,” de Korver said.

“It’s been a while I haven’t played the European Poker Tour for two years so to come to the first tournament and win it is pretty special.”

The Leeuwarden native has had a number of big cashes in the last six months.

He finished second in the € 5,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event at the Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam late last week, taking home € 171,720, before finishing third and scoring € 100,000 in the € 1,350 No Limit Hold’em Main Event during the Pokerstars Pokerstars Hold’em Challenge Winter Edition.

De Korver has now won $ 3,674,798 in live poker tournaments which has him placed second behind Marcel Luske on the all-time money list for players from the Netherlands.

The European Poker Tour Berlin continues with the Main Event kicking off today.
