WSOP Turns to Automated Tables

by | Published: Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

The World Series of Poker is set to unveil a world first at this year’s WSOP events in North Carolina.

Not only will it be the first time that a WSOP event has been held in North Carolina, but it will also be the first WSOP tournament held entirely on PokerPro automated tables.

The PokerPro table is about the same size as a traditional table, however there is no seat for the dealer. The hands are dealt electronically and the community cards are displayed on a large screen in the centre of the table.

Each player has a screen in front of them that displays their hole cards, their chips, and buttons that correspond to the actions a player may want to make throughout the course of a hand.

When the cards are initially dealt, they will appear face down on the players screen. When a player cups their hand over the screen the hole cards will be revealed, and when the player removes their hands from the screen the cards will again appear face down.

Players who have made their way into live poker via playing online will find these tables a breeze to operate. However there is still some resistance coming from traditional poker circles with fair play the biggest worry for older players.

Players on the PokerPro automated tables will have to get used to the fact that there are no chips to rake in after a good win. Also, players won’t be able to play with their chips during a hand. Although anyone who has heard the deafening rattle of thousands of poker chips being rattled around may welcome this.

While not having a dealer at a poker table may sound like sacrilege to some, it does have its benefits. First of all players shouldn’t worry about acting out of turn or putting the wrong amount of chips in the pot as all this is governed by the automated tables. All screens feature a ‘confirm’ button, meaning there is no excuse to accidently move all your chips in. Moreover, all side pots are calculated in seconds and evenly re-distributed. Also, in some casino’s it is customary to tip the dealer when you take a pot. That will be a thing of the past with the PokerPro automated tables.

Harrah’s Cherokee Casino will play host to the first WSOP tournament staged on automated tables. Entry to the tournament is $1075, with the winner receiving a seat to the 2011 WSOP Main Event plus $2000 spending money in addition to the cash prize.

Players are reminded that they qualify for the 2011 WSOP with Carbon Poker Carbon Poker for as little as $2.00

PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Mega Path Satellites

by | Published: Monday, April 11th, 2011

PokerStars is already offering cheap paths into the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, with Mega Path satellites into the Main Event.

Join Pokerstars Pokerstars now to start playing at the largest online poker room, with the biggest tournament prize money. Also, new players can claim a 100% match bonus on their first deposit of up to $600!

The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is one of the most important live poker events run by PokerStars, and it gives players the opportunity to combine a Caribbean holiday with a chance at winning millions of dollars in prize money.

Such an important event naturally has an expensive buy-in, and next year’s tournament from January 5 to 15 will be no exception. Many players thus opt to win their way into the tournament instead, and this can be very lucrative. Darren Keyes qualified for the 2011 event through the Mega Path satellites and ended up in tenth place with $150,000 in prize money.

You can enter a PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Mega Path Satellite for as little as 4 Frequent Player Points, but more costly ones are also available for players who do not want to have to play in too many tournaments to get to a prize package. You can find these tournaments in the Events section of the PokerStars lobby – just look for PCA and FPP satellites to choose the Mega Path events that look best for your play style.

What are you waiting for? Join Pokerstars Pokerstars now and earn FPPs on your early play so that you can enter these low cost PokerStars Caribbean Adventure satellites. At the same time, you will be earning your way to claiming a 100% match bonus on your first deposit worth up to $600.
