David Chiu Wins Fifth World Series of Poker Bracelet

by | Published: Monday, June 17th, 2013

David Chiu defeated the most stacked final table of the 2013 World Series of Poker to win the $2,500 Seven-Card Stud Title and his fifth WSOP bracelet.

Chiu claimed the first place prize of $145,520 but, more importantly, joined the list of elite poker players to have won five gold bracelets.

The fifty-two-year-old needed all his skill and experience to negotiate a final table that included six other WSOP bracelet winners such as Freddie Ellis, Michael Mizrachi, Frank Kassela, Gary Benson and Adam Friedman.

Chiu said the victory was made even more special by the quality of the other players at the final table.

“This one means a lot, because there were so many tough players at the final table,” Chiu said.

“Everybody here was a great player and all professionals.”

Chiu is considered one of the nice guys of poker and lived up to that reputation by dedicating his victory to former Los Angeles Lakers owner and poker player Jerry Bruss who passed away earlier this year.

“I am dedicating this gold bracelet to Dr. Jerry Buss,” Chiu said.

“This is for him, because he had so much love for this game.

“We all miss him so much, I wanted to do this for him and it’s why I played so hard to win.”

Chiu had to wait eight years to win another WSOP bracelet but he doesn’t believe the game has passed him by, especially in games like stud.

“All the younger guys play No-Limit Hold’em, but the old-school guys still have Stud and all the mixed games,” Chiu said.

“If I did not think I have what it takes to play, I would not compete.”

With his fifth World Series victory Chiu joins some of the poker elite, like Daniel Negreanu, John Juanda, Stu Ungar, Scotty Nguyen, Jeff Lisandro, Allen Cunningham, Berry Johnston, Chris Ferguson and Gary Berland, as the holder of five World Series of Poker bracelets but said he will continue to maintain a low profile.

“I’m really low key, I’m not into being a celebrity,” Chiu said.

“I’m just a normal person who likes to play poker.”

Linster Dominates Day Two of WPT World Championship

by | Published: Monday, May 20th, 2013

Mike Linster dominated the second day of the World Poker Tour World Championship to finish the session as the clear chip leader.

With sixty-seven players left in the hunt, Linster has 744,000 in chips and is well positioned to add to his inaugural World Poker Title that he won last month in the WPT Jacksonville bestbet Open.

The in-form Dan Shak is currently in second place with 617,300 in chips.

Shak has had a sensational year thus far, winning the Party Poker Party Poker Premier League and cashing in the Pokerstars Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure; 2013 Aussie Millions, WPT Los Angeles Poker Classic and the World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific.

Antonio Esfandiari is yet to taste tournament success this year but with 536,100 in chips is well placed to make a deep run in this event.

Esfandiari scored his first major tournament victory in the 2004 Los Angeles Poker Classic and would dearly love to become a duel World Poker Tour winner after coming close on a couple of occasions in the last six months.

As expected a number of big names took advantage of the late registration and entered the tournament during level eight.

Phil Ivey was quickly eliminated and Jason Mercier struggled while Phil Hellmuth capitalized on some aggressive play to be sitting in seventeenth position at the conclusion of the day.

A number of leading pros finished the day with a short stack and will need to play well to get themselves back into the tournament.

Noah Schwartz (36,900), Jonathan Aguiar (49,100), John Hennigan (64,900), Scotty Nguyen (81,500), Daniel Negreanu (124,000), Erick Lindgren (124,100) and Matt Salsberg (130,800) will all need a bit of luck if they are going to become World Poker Tour Champion.

Day three of the event is just about to start and we will keep you up to date with all the action here at Poker.com.

It may not be the World Poker Tour but you can play a wide range of online poker tournament at Titan Poker Titan Poker.
