Dan Colman Wins Yet Another Poker Event

by | Published: Sunday, September 7th, 2014

Before April, hardly anyone would have been able to tell you who Dan Colman was. But with three big poker event wins under his belt in just five months, he’s become a household name in the poker world.

dan colman seminole hard rock poker open winnerA win in April’s European Poker Tour Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller was his introduction to the community, but Colman didn’t stop there. Since then, the 23 year-old has completed one of the most dominant runs in poker history.

Colman, who went on to win the World Series of Poker $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop in July as well as finishing runner-up in last month’s EPT Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller, added another $1,446,710 to his yearly winnings on Wednesday when he beat a field of 1,499 players to take out the $5,300 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open.

Colman outlasted a tough final table to claim his staggering fourth seven-figure score of 2014. He now has more than $20,000,000 in cashes since April under his belt, and has climbed past Phil Ivey into third place on poker’s all-time list behind Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari.

2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Results

Seat Player Prize
1 Dan Colman $1,446,710
2 Mike Leah $1,047,638
3 Shawn Cunix $748,313
4 John Dolan $548,763
5 Joe Kuether $424,044
6 Martin Hanowski $324,269

Colman didn’t begin Wednesday’s final table in the lead, he had to work for it. He trailed to Mike Leah in chips but it didn’t take the poker wunderkind long to command the table. After John Dolan eliminated Martin Hanowski in 6th place, Colman got all of Joe Kuether’s chips. Dolan himself exited a few hands later, and his strike also came from Colman.

It then came down to three-handed play, with the lead shifting back into Leah’s favor.  However, Colman reclaimed the pole position after eliminating Shawn Cunix in 3rd place.

Colman then took 25,450,000 into heads-up play against Leah’s 19,550,000. The heads-up sit-and-go specialist, who has become known for his impressive knack for closing the deal, grinded Leah down to 11,500,000 before finishing him for good.

Dan Colman is undoubtedly becoming a fantastic professional poker player. Where will he strike next? How many more wins will he add to his season belt? Only time will tell. But one thing for sure, the entire poker world will be watching his every move with anticipation and excitement.

PokerStars Teams Up with Seminole Poker Open Championship

by | Published: Thursday, August 7th, 2014

Back in June, the Seminole Hard Rock casino in Hollywood, Florida moved the dates of its Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship (SHRPOC) series so as not to conflict with the European Poker Tour Barcelona, which was on at the same time.

Hollywood casino poker openNow, Seminole Hard Rock has teamed up with Pokerstars Pokerstars, who also happen to be the title sponsor of the EPT, to offer players the chance to buy into the SHRPOC Main Event via their online poker account.

The SHRPOC series is set to begin on August 14. It will feature 24 events, including the $5,300 Main Event with a $10 million guarantee on the 28th followed by a $100,000 Super High Roller on September 1, both of these events will allow reentries.

The SHRPOC Main Event begins a day after the EPT Barcelona concludes, giving players enough time to play in all the events if they wish.

“For the first time ever, PokerStars is offering players the option to buy into this live event via their poker account. Players can only buy into one Day 1, and this option is only available until August 24,” says a promotional page on PokerStars.com.

To buy-in, open the PokerStars lobby, head to the ‘More’ > ‘Special’ tabs and look for the ‘Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship’ tournament, where you can choose from Day 1a, 1b, or 1c.

Seminole made headlines in the poker world last year when it announced its $10 million guarantee Main Event. Last year’s $5,300 buy-in event exceeded the guarantee by nearly $2 million and Blair Hinkle took home a $1.75 million first-place prize after defeating Justin Bonomo in heads-up play.

Seminole Hard Rock Posts Dates for $10M and $100K Events

by | Published: Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

The Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida rocked the poker world in 2013 when it announced a $10 million guarantee tournament. The $5,300 buy-in event smashed the guarantee by close to $2 million, and the eventual winner, Blair Hinkle, took home nearly $1.75 million for his efforts.

The tournament was such a success the casino is bringing it back in 2014. The Seminole Hard Rock released its entire schedule for the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open on Tuesday, and another $10 million guarantee was on the schedule for August 28. It will be followed by a $100,000 Super High Roller Deep Stack No-Limit Hold’em on September 1. Both of these high profile events will be allowing reentries.

The 23-event festival, which begins on August 14, will also feature a $2,200 eight-game mix, a $2,200 six-max, and a $1,650 bounty tournament.

The Seminole Hard Rock pushed their series closer to September, perhaps because of a potential scheduling conflict between the $10 million guarantee and the European Poker Tour Barcelona – the 100th EPT event ever held. But now the first festival of Season 11 of the EPT wraps up two days before the Seminole’s flagship event, so there are no potential overlaps.
