Dan Shak Wins Premier League VI

by | Published: Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

Dan Shak joined one of the most exclusive clubs in the poker world by adding his name to the Premier League winners list after winning season six at the Aspers Casino in London on Sunday.

The final table for the event was a slight anticlimax, with poker legends such as Daniel Negreanu, Tony G and Phil Hellmuth failing to qualify, but the competition was still extremely strong.

Tala Shakerchi went into the final table with a big stack but was the first player eliminated when his Ace-Eight ran into the Ace-King of Antonio Esfandiari.

Jennifer Tilly surpassed expectations to qualify for the final table of the tournament but couldn’t make a small run with her small stack and was eliminated in seventh place.

Tobias Reinkemeier was the chip leader heading into the final table but could never get rolling on the final table.

His final hand summed up his day with his King-Seven being severely out flopped by the Five-Three of Dan Cates.

Unfortunately for Cates, he couldn’t take advantage of the double-up and was eliminated by Shak just a few hands later.

Jonathan Duhamel dominated Pool A in the preliminary rounds and started the final table well but a big loss to Sam Trickett left him with one of the shortest stacks at the table and just a few hands later he became Shak’s latest victim.

Antonio Esfandiari was a last minute qualifier for the final table but took advantage of the opportunity with his characteristically aggressive play.

However, as the tournament became three-handed he was well behind Shak and Trickett but attempted to make something happen with Pocket Nines.

He was called by Shak holding Ace-Two who snared an Ace on the river to send Esfandiari packing and give himself the chip lead.

Shak’s advantage was quickly wiped out when his own flush was defeated by the higher flush of Trickett but Shak was able to take the lead back when he won a monster pot holding another flush.

This pot effectively crippled Trickett’s stack and Shak took down the tournament on the very next hand.

Shak took home $450,000 and continue his stellar form in 2013 that has now seen him win well over $1 million in live tournament winnings.

The Premier League was sponsored by Party Poker Party Poker who offer an incredible range of poker games as well as the opportunity to play with a number of leading professional poker players.
