by | Published: Saturday, December 22nd, 2012

Marvin Rettenmaier has capped off his stellar 2012 by winning the European Poker Tour €10,000 High Roller at Prague Hilton on Sunday.

Rettenmaier outlasted an excellent field of 113 players to claim the first place prize of €365,300 and win his fourth tournament of the year.

The victory brings Rettenmaier closer to Dan Smith in the race for the Global Poker Index of the Year and the German admitted that was his motivation for playing the tournament.

“I didn’t even think about the money at all I was chasing player of the year points but that is a nice amount of money,” Rettenmaier said.

European Poker Tour organizers were stunned by the amount of players that entered the event and Rettenmaier was quick to pay credit to the quality of the field assembled.

“It was very very tough the whole field was very good,” Rettenmaier said.

“My starting table was probably the toughest in the room so I was happy when it was over.”

Rettenmaier has had by far the greatest year of his career but couldn’t really explain why he has found so much success in 2012.

“I don’t know, I really don’t know,” Rettenmaier said.

“I took more breaks this year than last year and I think that helped me for sure.

“But I don’t really know.”

Rettenmaier started the year with victory in the € 2,000 No Limit Hold’em Monte-Carlo Casino EPT Grand Final before scoring $ 1,196,858 by winning the $25,000 No Limit Hold’em World Poker Tour Championship.

He recorded several good results at the World Series of Poker, without winning a bracelet, before claiming another victory in the World Poker Tour Merit Cyprus Classic.

The European Poker Tour continues in January with the Pokerstars Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure.
