by | Published: Sunday, June 9th, 2013

The World Poker Tour has announced the first half of the tournament schedule for Season XII as well as a new agreement with Fox Sports that will see their televised events distributed all around the world.

The Season XII World Poker Tour schedule is jam-packed with tournament action with almost sixty events taking place all over the world.

The World Poker truly is now a global event with tournaments set to take place in North America, Europe, Asia, The Caribbean and Africa.

WPT President Adam Pliska was delighted that the new deal with Fox Sports conceded with the expansion of the tour.

“Our strategy of global expansion is now being fully realized,” Pliska said.

“From 18 events in Season VIII to nearly 60 Main Tour, Regional, and National events in Season XI, World Poker Tour will provide FSN with nearly 100 hours of original programming over the course of this agreement.

“With the greater support and distribution that our new deal provides, World Poker Tour is now guaranteed to make up a major share of the best-in-class, US television poker real estate for years to come.”

Fox Sports Network Vice President of Programming David Sussin said the company was thrilled to be partnering with the World Poker Tour.

“World Poker Tour has delivered record viewers over the past two seasons, and that is a testament to the consistent quality of the show and WPT’s position as the world’s premiere provider of poker programming,” Sussin said.

The World Poker Tour will be visiting a number of new casinos in 2013 and Executive Tour Director Matt Savage said they will continue to work hard to offer the best possible tournament experience for players at all events.

“I’m very proud of the work we’ve done to grow the World Poker Tour over the past few seasons,” Savage said.

“With our new schedule and expanded global presence, it’s more important than ever to provide our partners and players with the best experience possible at every stop the WPT makes.

“I’m looking forward to working with both constituencies to make this happen and to continue our worldwide growth.”

Season XII of the World Poker Tour will kick off with the WPT Legends of Poker event at the Bicycle Casino on August 29th.

Other highlights on the schedule include The WPT Grand Prix de Paris at the Aviation Club in France, WPT Montreal at the Playground Poker Club and the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic.

Theo Jorgensen Shot in Robbery

by | Published: Saturday, December 8th, 2012

Danish Team Pokerstars Pokerstars professional poker player Theo Jorgensen was shot three times during a robbery at his home in Denmark on Sunday.

Jorgensen is reportedly in a stable condition in hospital and his injuries are not considered life threatening.

Three armed men forced their way into Jorgensen’s home on Sunday afternoon and demanded cash.

Jorgensen gave the robbers both US dollar and Euros but they demanded more and shot the Dane when he was unable to comply with their request.

Jorgensen was shot in the leg three times as his horrified wife watched on.

His wife called the police but despite an extensive search of the surrounding area the armed men have not been captured.

The 2010 WPT Grand Prix de Paris was able to release a statement on his Facebook page yesterday.

“It is important for me to emphasize that I am a cautious man,” Jorgensen said in the statement.

“I have prepared myself mentally and practically that this situation could arise to protect myself and my family against outsiders.

“I know that the outsiders may have a mistaken idea of how much cash I have in my home.

“I have alarm systems installed, always so get cash lying as possible [sic] and generally taken my precautions but it has unfortunately proved not to be enough.”

Jorgensen is one of Europe’s top tournament poker players and is currently ranked 184th on the All Time Money List.

His biggest tournament success came when he defeated a strong field to win the first place prize of $ 848,736 in the 2010 WPT Rendez-Vous à Paris.

Jorgensen is also a World Series of Poker Bracelet winner having won the 2008 WSOP Europe £ 5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event.

His consistency and popularity throughout Europe saw him become a member of the exclusive Team Pokerstars Pokerstars in 2011.
