Online Registration for WSOP Asia-Pacific Events Now Open!

by | Published: Thursday, September 4th, 2014

In just one month, the World Series of Poker will host the second edition of its WSOP Asia-Pacific. Taking place at Australia’s Crown Casino Melbourne from October 2-18, the series will feature 10 gold bracelet events. Last year’s event saw five awarded, so with five more added to this year’s schedule it is likely to be an even bigger event.

2014 WSOP Asia PacificWith buy-ins ranging from as low as AU$1,100 up to AU$25,000, all poker players have the chance to attend this exciting event. The series kicks off with the AU$1,100 No-Limit Hold’em Accumulator on October 2 but the highlight of the series will undoubtedly be the AU$10,000 Main Event, which will have two starting days beginning on October 12. Players are able to register for the series online via Crown Poker’s website, which means you won’t have to wait in line or risk being put on an alternative list.

Daniel Negreanu won last year’s Main Event for AU$1,038,825, and his fifth gold bracelet win helped him become the 2013 WSOP Player of the Year. Will he return to the series? What other big names in the professional poker community will make the trek down under? Since this year’s WSOP Asia-Pacific will be the culmination of the 2014 Player of the Year race, many big-name players are expected to make the trip, including Negreanu (who currently sits fourth on the POY leaderboard), Brandon Shack-Harris (first), and George Danzer (second) in a bid to earn final points. Imagine who you could be rubbing shoulders with.

“Bigger and better is the best way to describe the 2014 WSOP Asia-Pacific,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. “New events at modest price points like the Dealer’s Choice and Terminator No-Limit Hold’em, plus an expansion of overall events and a move to springtime in Melbourne is designed to encourage the North American and European contingent to make this a can’t-miss event. Plus, we have secured the most comprehensive live television coverage in both the U.S. and Australia for both the Main Event and High Roller.”

Both the WSOP and Crown Melbourne are prepared to help book your trip to Australia and the handy online registration means you’re guaranteed a seat with ease. This is a stop not to be missed, even if you just go to watch the pros in action.

2014 World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific Schedule Announced

by | Published: Tuesday, April 29th, 2014

The eye of the poker world will be squarely focused on Melbourne, Australia later this year when the 2014 World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific comes to town. The schedule for the event was released last week, announcing the festival will take place over two weeks from October 2-18, and will offer 10 gold bracelet events.

Crown Casino Melbourne will once again play host to the event, which will also see the culmination of the 2014 WSOP Player of the Year race.

“Bigger and better is the best way to describe the 2014 WSOP Asia-Pacific,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart in the press release.

The “live” television coverage Stewart discusses will be for the AU$10,000 Main Event, which starts on October 12, and the AU$25,000 High Roller, which starts on October 15. Though toted as being live, the two events will be viewed with a one-hour delay on ESPN television both in Australia and the U.S. on October 176 and 18. According to the WSOP, “The live television window includes 6-8 hours of coverage a day, meaning nearly every hand of the final table of each the Main Event and High Roller will be seen by viewers around the globe.”

“We are really excited that the WSOP Asia-Pacific is returning to Melbourne,” said Gus Seebeck, ESPN’s General Manager of Australia and New Zealand. “It’s a fantastic event and ESPN’s expanded coverage will bring poker fans around the world even closer to the action.”

The series, which kicks off on October 2 with the AU$1,100 No-Limit Hold’em Accumulator, will offer buy-ins ranging from as low as AU$1,100 up to AU$25,000. The Accumulator event plans to generate a large field of entrants, since each player will be allowed to play in any or all of the starting flights. The catch being though that all chips a player advances through the numerous flights with will be accumulated into one stack on Day 2.

The AU$10,000 Main Event will have two starting days and begin on October 12. Last year, the Main Event was won by poker superstar Daniel Negreanu who took home AU$1,038,825 and his fifth gold bracelet.
